End of the year PTC – G6 Evolve

Dear Parents,

Mentioned below are the timings for the Parent Teacher Conference (PTC) on 21st April, Friday.

For the parents who did not book, the slots are allotted on the basis of availability. Kindly go through your child’s End of year report which is shared with you.  Also, note that the hard copy of the PYP exhibition report has been sent with your child. You need to go through the same today and get it tomorrow, as it has to be kept in the grade portfolio.

Please adhere to the timings. Carry the old ID card and bearer card of your child.

Important note for the day – 18th April’17

Learners discussed their feelings about moving to MYP. They shared their excitement and apprehensions.

They also had a fun time in the splash pool.

For tomorrow

  1. As we approach towards the culmination of this year, it’s time to make some sweet memories. We would like to end this journey with a Pot Luck Party. Evolve students are requested to bring food (as per Friday food policy) for 25 people. They also need to bring disposable dishes and spoons.

Homework for 31st March’17

Homework :-

  1. Research on the factual questions framed by you under conceptual questions i.e. LOIs(Lines of inquiry). The answers to these factual questions are to be written in the new sheet – Synthesis (Format was already discussed in the class)
  2. Task Definition, Information Seeking Strategies and Location and Access – These three steps should be done as of now. If any group if left, please complete it in the weekend.
  3. Primary Research Sheet is already added in your main sheet. If you are conducting primary research you will update the sheet and conduct your research accordingly.
  4. While researching, if you come across websites which are blocked please send us the link, we’ll get it unblocked.
  5. The weekend is a great opportunity for you to further plan your exhibition. Only 8 working days are left for the exhibition out of which 2-3 days will go for display work. So technically only 5-6 working days are left for you to conduct and synthesize your research work.

Learners explored Google drive and Google apps  in order to enhance their ICT skills which will be  required during PYP exhibition.

Students reflected on their learning till date and made personal connections with the aspects of culture. They filled a worksheet and a google form to prioritize their area of interest.

Homework :- 

Complete reflection for cycle 3 in  PYP Exhibition notebook.

  • The sessions of cycle 3 are:
    • Understanding culture through article reading in snippets.
    • Defining culture- Frayer’s model
    • Understanding the interconnectedness of the aspects of culture through the exploration of FS culture.
    • Analogy and 5 main ideas
    • Elucidation of the big idea. – Exploring Central Idea and reading article of heritage cycle
    • Trip orientation
    • GRK/LRK Trip

Highlights and Homework – 21st March’17

PYP Exhibition

Learners were very excited to share their experiences of the Kachchh trip. They shared the emotions they had experienced while exploring culture during the educational trip.

Later, they were divided into groups to discuss the learning from the Kachchh trip. They were then asked to reflect on a chart using the following reflection questions:

10 things they saw or places they visited during the trip
7 quotes which they heard from the local people, artisans, guide etc during the trip
5 ideas which they understood
3 questions they still have
1 main idea of the trip.
This helped them share their ideas and have a detailed understanding of the places visited at LRK, GRK as well as Ahmedabad.

Highlights and Homework – 15th March’17

PYP Exhibition:

Learners read an article to develop and  deepen their understanding of aspects of culture like technology, wars, education,arts. They reflected their understanding of the article in a graphic organizer, after which a class discussion was taken.

Learners further explored the aspects of culture with respect to the culture followed in Fountainhead School. They categorised the activities undertaken by the school in different categories such as food, clothing, arts, celebrations, traditions etc. This activity helped them to understand the interconnectedness of different aspects of culture and also helped them to make connections of these aspects to the culture followed by school and its stakeholders.

Homework :

  1. Complete your single subject homework.
  2. Create a poster/collage/painting/poem which contains elements of Indian culture like arts, architecture, entertainment, languages, food, clothing etc. You can use A3, A4 or a chart paper for this task.

Highlights and homework – 14th March’17

PYP Ex : Learners discussed the definition of culture and revised different elements of culture. They moved to reflect on their learning through the Frayer’s model. Learners noted their response about definition, characteristics, example and nonexample of culture in the group.

Homework :-

Make Frayer’s Model in your notebook and write the definition, characteristics, examples and non-examples of culture as discussed in class.

Highlights and homework – 10th March’17

UOI :- Students were divided into groups of 4 and were asked to explore 5 centers  and observe each center carefully and make connections. Students were asked to make connection through commonality among the objects shown in the picture and compartmentalize the same in their notebooks. Then, a class discussion on all the aspects were done and students said that all the aspects like food, architecture, festivals etc come under one big umbrella ‘Culture’.

Later they were shown the following video on ‘What is Culture- Quotes’ and a class discussion was taken on each quote which helped them to understand Culture in a better manner.

Maths : Learners attempted Maths  Summative Assessment.

Homework

PYP Exhibition :- Write the cyclic reflection for the current cycle, in 100 words, in your PYP exhibition journal. Keep in mind the cyclic reflection checklist and tick for Cycle 2, in the sheet. The sessions taken in the cycle are :

  1. Making of the life map
  2. Play by the teachers and reflection of the play through the Four R’s worksheet.
  3. Understanding of history and its importance through videos and quotes.
  4. TDT exploration, exploration of different centres in the classes.
  5. Bus stop activity, Understanding culture through the activity.
  6. Quotes on understanding of culture.
