Welcome to the new academic year

Welcome to the new academic year

Dear Parents,

Welcome to yet another wonderful journey with Grade 6!

My name is Zahabiyah Shaikhmahmood and I will be leading the Grade 6 team again this year. I am delighted to have a bunch of enthusiastic learners and I am sure their enthusiasm and energy would help me and my team to overcome all the challenges. I wish this academic year to be an enriching as well as a meaningful one for both you and your child. Rest assured there would be many new, exciting and interesting things happening this year.

The first two weeks of school will be dedicated to establishing routines and procedures in our grade. The teachers will be working together with the students to develop a set of classroom rules, rewards, and consequences. Research shows that this time of the year, if well spent in establishing routines and procedures, can create an atmosphere of respect, cooperation, and accountability. The end result is a greater gain in the academic achievement. Initially, students will also spend some time revising the previously learnt Grade 5 curriculum. An informal pre-assessment will be taken to understand the development/status of the student’s math, reading and writing skills. The data gathered will help my team to tailor the curriculum to fit students needs.

I believe that parent-teacher relationships are necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year my team will communicate through the daily diary, blog, telephone call (only incase of emergency), report cards and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact your child’s class teacher or me if you have any questions or concerns at any point in time. We will be happy to address any of your queries through the daily diary.

Let me take this opportunity to introduce my bunch of motivated, zealous, child loving, learner-centered team members.
