Creative Thinking Challenge

Creative thinking– A way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests unorthodox solutions (which may look unsettling at first). Creative thinking can be stimulated both by an unstructured process such as brainstorming and by a structured process such as lateral thinking.

Students were divided in 5 groups. Different problems were assigned to each group. Learners were encouraged to think of creative solutions.  

Problems are as follows:

Island fever: You are stranded on an island and you want to get home. There are many trees and you have a saw, some rope, three books, a bag of clothing and enough food to last a week. What will you create?

Pollution Solution: You are worried about pollution. You do not like the way the air often seems heavy and looks dirty. What will you create?

War works: You feel sad when anyone is hurt. You want to design something for the military that is useful but will not be harmful to people. What will you create?

Sweet sounds: You like music and think it would be great to invent a new kind of musical instrument. What will you create?

They reckoned, discussed and finally designed the solution for the given problem. After contemplating and evaluating their solutions, each group presented their idea in front of their peers.

Students enjoyed the session and involved themselves in an intense discussion, which enhanced their thinking and social skills.

Language: Students were introduced to the vocabulary used for describing the physical appearance of a person.

Homework

Language: a) Students have to describe the physical appearance of their teacher(minimum 5 lines). They can refer the Empowering English reference book for the vocabulary.

b) Bring the cut out from magazines of models/celebrities wearing different types of clothes, accessories to familiarize them with cloth materials/pattern/condition etc.

UOI: Students have been briefed about the UOI summative assessment task.

Homework:

Note: Finalize the explorer of your choice and kindly send relevant resources (i.e. books, articles, links to videos, pictures, newspaper cut outs etc) for their explorer as we are starting with the assessment tomorrow. They’ll also be given resources from the school.

Math:

  1. A family sets off to drive 524km. after 267km, how much further do they have to go?
  2. A truck was loaded with 352 kg 100 g of pumpkins and 207 kg 432 g of watermelons. Find the total weight carried by truck.
  3. Raju delivers 100L milk every day. On Monday, he was short of milk supply by 832mL. What is the quantity of milk that Raju can deliver on Monday?
  4. Subtract 30m 9cm 6mm from 119m 20cm 4mm
  5. Add 3g, 463mg and 962mg.
