## GRADE 11 MATHEMATICS SL SYLLABUS AND PAPER STYLE DETAILS FOR TERM 2 EXAMINATIONS 2017-18

Dear Parents and Students,

Please find below the details of the syllabus of Mathematics SL for the 2nd Term examination of 2017-2018.

Syllabus (according to Mathematics SL guide):
1) Algebra
2) Functions and Equations
3) Trigonometry and Circular Functions
4) Statistics
5) Differential Calculus

There will be two papers for Mathematics SL. Please check the following details of each component :

Paper 1 (90 Marks – 50% weightage – 90 minutes)
Students are not permitted access to any calculator.
Questions will mainly involve analytic approaches to solutions, rather than requiring the use of a GDC.
The paper is not intended to require complicated calculations, with the potential for careless errors. However, questions will include some arithmetic manipulations when they are essential to the development of the question.

Section A Compulsory short-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Section B Compulsory extended-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Paper 2 (90 Marks – 50% weightage – 90 minutes)
Students must have access to a GDC at all times. However, not all questions will necessarily require the use of the GDC.

Section A Compulsory short-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Section B Compulsory extended-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Important Note:
Each student will be given a clean copy of the formula booklet during the examination.
Marks may be awarded for method, accuracy, answers and reasoning, including interpretation.
Where an answer is incorrect, some marks may be given for correct method, provided this is shown by written working. All students are therefore advised to show their working.

Please feel free to communicate your queries if any.

Thanks and Regards,

## IH Homework

Dear Students,

Please go through the following notes and then watch the video and take notes and show it to me by tomorrow:

Ocean Currents: An ocean current is like a vast river within the ocean, flowing from one place to another. These currents are caused by differences in temperature, differences in salinity, and by wind. Currents are responsible for a vast amount of movement of the water found in the Earth’s oceans.

So another factor that can warm a particular location is ocean currents. For example, the Gulf Stream warms certain areas of Western Europe, meaning that they have more temperate or moderate climates than other areas of the same latitude.
