Paper 1
Productive skills—writing (30 marks)
One writing task of 250–400 words from a choice of three, each from
theme ( Identity) , choosing a text type from among those listed below.
Text Types
Letter, Email, Diary, Interview, article and Speech
Time – (1 hour 15 minutes)
Weightage – 25%

Paper 2
Receptive skills—
Listening comprehension (45 minutes) (25 marks)
Weightage 35%
Comprehension exercises on three audio passages
Listening will be conducted in class. It is updated in unit test log.
Reading comprehension (1 hour) (40 marks)
Comprehension exercises on three written texts, drawn
from theme identity.
HL
Paper 1

Dear Students and Parents.

Following are the details for term-1 examination (Oct’18)-

For SL

Paper 1: Textual analysis – (1 hour 30 minutes) – (20 marks)

The paper consists of two unseen texts.
Students write an analysis of one of these texts.

For HL

Paper 1: Comparative textual analysis (2 hours) – (20 marks)

The paper consists of two pairs of unseen texts.
Students write a comparative analysis of one pair of texts.

Possible text types-

Different non-literary text types are included, for example:

advertisement

opinion column

extract from an essay

electronic text (such as social networking sites, blogs)

brochure (such as a public information leaflet)

extract from a memoir, diary or other autobiographical text.

For HL students literary texts are also possible options.
