  • Complete the mixed – bag homework in your mixed bag notebooks.
  • Read Chapter 11, 12, 13 and 14 of Holes through the following links of the audiobook. Keep your book open and read along as per the audio. Note taking(by underlining in the book) and annotating has to be done, using a pencil. If you don’t have the book, take notes on a journal sheet. It will be required for a class discussion on Monday.

Unit Of Inquiry

Transdisciplinary theme: How we express ourselves

Central Idea: People may use different art forms to express their culture.

UOI:

  • The students took the inquiry further by researching one culture which they have selected as per the sections.
  • Formative assessment was taken.

Language:

  • The students were introduced to ‘Simile’ through a poem and a video. They also learned to identify and create their own Simile sentences through the rainbow chart.
  • The students filled the Anchor chart by using the comprehension strategy “monitoring inner conversation” after reading the story “The Sparrow and the fruit”.
  • Dictation was conducted.

Math:

  • Revision of the concept of commutative property, number line and round off to the nearest tens was done.
  • Students solved subtraction word problems.
  • Addition formative assessment was taken.

Dear Parents

Term 1 Syllabus of Grade 9 Language Acquisition  is as follows:

Unit 1: Life on Mars

1. Why do people want to live on Mars?

2. Why should people not go to Mars?

3. Is it desirable to send astronauts on Mars?

4.The environment of Mars.

5.Difference between the Earth and Mars.

Criterion A:–  Comprehending spoken and visual text.

i. show understanding of information, main ideas and supporting details, and draw conclusions ii. understand conventions iii. engage with the spoken and visual text by identifying ideas, opinions and attitudes and by making a response to the text based on personal experiences and opinions.

Criterion  C:-  Communicating in response to spoken and/or written and/or visual text.

i. respond appropriately to spoken and/or written and/or visual text. iii. express ideas and feelings, and communicate information in familiar and some unfamiliar situations iv. communicate with a sense of audience and purpose.

Criterion  D:-  Using language in spoken and/or written form

i. write and/or speak using a range of vocabulary, grammatical structures, and conventions; when speaking, use clear pronunciation and intonation ii. organize information and ideas and use a range of basic cohesive devices iii. use language to suit the context.

Examination Detail:

The exam will be divided into 2 components:

(i) Component 1: Criterion A- 60 mins Audio/Video will be shared with the students. Students will watch the videos and respond to questions asked in the answer booklet provided.

(ii) Component 2: Pen and Paper examination to assess Criteria B, C & D – 1 hr. 30 minutes.

Fully charged Chromebook will be required along with your personal stationery and earphones. In case your Chromebook is given for repair, bring a receipt for the same.

  • All the resources shared on Curricle(subject resource sheet and google presentation), Google Classroom as well as worksheets provided (online or in hard copy) will be considered as part of the syllabus and will be sufficient to prepare for the examination.
  • Paper will include short and long type responses.
