Night Out scheduled for Early Years on Saturday 20th Jan’ 18

Night Out scheduled for Early Years on Saturday 20th Jan’ 18

Dear Parents,

Night out for Early Years (Nu/JK/SK)  is scheduled on Saturday, 20th January 2018. Students will reach school by 3:10 pm on Saturday, 20th January and leave for home the next morning, Sunday 21st January.

The link for pick up (Saturday, 20th January) & drop off (Sunday, 21st January) routes are mentioned here: Night out Bus Routes

Please refer to the details given below:

Objective:

Night-out is the time for sharing and the children learn differently from how they do within the four walls of the classroom. It is also a way to experience school after the working hours and see how the campus looks on a dark night. It teaches the children to be independent, taking them out of their comfort zone.

Therefore it is our conscious choice to make them sleep in the open; and  be courageous to face the elements of nature. Night out is about appreciating nature as much as it is about enthusiastically having fun. So these two experiences together create a powerful learning atmosphere for the students of which certain discomforts are a part of.

Hence, we urge the parents to prepare their children for being open-minded and experiencing something different from what they get at home for e.g. a warm bed in an AC room, bedtime story, Ipads etc. In addition to all the fun elements involved, they should also reflect on the learning part in the night-out.

We would also like to mention a few concerns that may come up during the night out.

Concerns:

  1. Winters – It will be very cold, especially in the school area (where temperatures are 2-4 degrees lesser than the city) and so sleeping outdoors (in  assembly/skating rink) for children is difficult. (Nursery to G 4, students will sleep in assembly area (Rendezvous), beyond grade 4 students will sleep in skating rink. If the temperature drops below 12 degree, even older students will sleep indoors)
  1. Mosquitoes – We take all possible steps to reduce the number of mosquitoes. However due to our location in the midst of lush green farms with stagnated water (as the crops are paddy and sugarcane) on all sides, we cannot eliminate the mosquito menace completely.

Steps taken:

  • Daily fogging in open areas in the mornings.
  • Spraying of insecticides in open areas on regular intervals.
  • During Night outs, fogging is done in the sleeping area before the students go to sleep.
  • Also, we ask parents to send mosquito repellent cream so that the teacher can help the student apply it, before going to sleep.

In spite of taking care of all the points mentioned above, there still can be cases of mosquito/ insect bite to a few children who have sensitive skin or due to allergic reaction.  In such a case the parent must inform the respective HRT / TL  in advance  so that the teacher can address the issue.

  1. Insects – At night in most months of the year there are lots of insects that are attracted towards artificial lighting. Our toilets are open at the top to allow for light and ventilation. Toilet lights have to remain switched ON from evening till night (so that students and adults can find it easily). This means that insects will get attracted to the lights inside the toilet and many of them will fall dead on the floor as well.

As mentioned, night out is as much about being close to nature therefore it is necessary that children sleep outdoors. Parents need to ensure that children are properly equipped with clothes and covers to handle the cold (and it is much more colder for the child compared to his/her regular bed). You must make sure the children are really well dressed and carry a good repellent cream as we want them to have a memorable experience sleeping in the outdoors!

  4. Sweater/ Jacket/ Inner-wear (thermal, warm clothes/socks ). All students should wear at least 4 layers of clothes (thermals, half sleeves t-shirt, full sleeves t-shirt and jacket/ sweater), should wear 2 pairs of socks (1 cotton and 1 woolen) and a pair of gloves.
  5. Bottoms: Thermals followed by 2 layers of pants
  6. Woolen caps/ monkey caps/ scarves
  7. 2 layers of covers (Bedsheet and Blanket)
  8. Mosquito repellent

All the items should be labeled properly to avoid confusion. Please do not send any expensive toys or other items. The school will not be responsible for any kind of loss.

We encourage every student to be present for the night out, it’s an event that children really enjoy. There will be sufficient number of teachers and support staff to ensure that the students are safe and secure in the school apart from extra security arrangements for the event. The school also appoints a senior staff member (HOS/Principal/ Coordinators/ Admin Managers) as a safety monitor for the night out who ensures that all students are safe.

Thanks,

Fountainhead School.

Nature camp to Dholavira, Grade 5 2017-18

Nature camp to Dholavira, Grade 5 2017-18

Dear Parents,

With the intent of aligning the curriculum with exploration, students of Grade 5 will be visiting Dholavira. This study tour has been planned with relevance to our transdisciplinary theme “Where we are in place and time”, with the central idea as ‘Evidences of past civilizations can be used to make connections to present day societies’.

We will be studying many ideas which are in use today and have their origin in the past. For e.g. We will be studying the town planning, construction of structures, materials used for construction, drainage, storage, reasons why these settlements came up in these places, what access they had to natural resources, trade, social life like class system, utensils or jewellery used.

Dholavira is an important archaeological site & gives a lot of information on life in the ancient world. It is believed to be an extension of Mohenjo-daro and Harappan civilizations, which are now a part of Pakistan.

PYP Exhibition trip to Ahmedabad and LRK (Grade 6) 2017-18

PYP Exhibition trip to Ahmedabad and LRK (Grade 6) 2017-18

Dear Parent,

We are soon going to enter the most important phase of the PYP, the culmination of the programme – The PYP Exhibition (PYPX). PYPX represents a significant event in the life of a PYP school and student, synthesizing the essential elements of the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. The students are required to engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, researching and finding solutions to real life issues related to the topic they have chosen.

During this process, it is also important for us to provide opportunities, in form of field trips, for students to get out of classroom and experience something new. Based on the requirements for the inquiry process, we have finalised an educational trip to Little Rann of Kutch (LRK) from 5th March – 10th March 2017 (in 2 batches).

The trip to LRK will:

  • Be a rich learning environment as students will be able to explore and inquire from actual hands-on experiences, rather than by simply reading or hearing about it. Involving in real world experience will make the inquiry process more meaningful and memorable resulting in a conceptual understanding of the topic.
  • Bring in a lot of expert insight – Opportunities to come out into the community to interact with experts to get first-hand information and experience.
  • Opportunities to take meaningful action – The things students observe and experience on this trip increase their motivation for learning and in turn broadens their horizon which leads to an action that arises from a genuine concern and commitment towards themselves as well as the society.
  • Provide opportunities to demonstrate and apply skills acquired during the PYP journey.

Hence, it is highly recommended for each and every student to participate in this educational trip, which will provide them a rich learning experience. These experiences will help them finalise a research topic that really matters to them to make the PYPX process a more meaningful and memorable one.

Please click on the link below to fill the latest by 18th January 2018, Friday. Also send the cheque for the trip to the homeroom teacher by 18th January 2018. The cost of the trip will be approx Rs. 7900/- . The amount will be adjusted in imprest deposit as per actual cost accrued. Kindly send the cheque in favour of FOUNTAINHEAD EDUCATION TRUST

Night out of Grade 7 & 8 scheduled on Saturday, 6 January 2018.

Dear Parents,

Night out for Grade 7 & 8  is scheduled on  Saturday, 6th January  2018. Students will reach school by 3:10 pm on Saturday (6th Jan’18) and leave for home the next morning at 6:00 am. (Sunday 7th Jan’18)

The link for both pick up (6th Jan’18 Saturday) & drop off (7th Jan’18, Sunday) routes are mentioned below.

Link for pickup and drop off routes: Night out Bus Routes

Please refer to the details given below:

Objective:

Night-out is the time for sharing and the children learn differently from how they do within the four walls of the classroom. It is also a way to experience school after the working hours and see how the campus looks on a dark night. It teaches the child to be independent, taking them out of their comfort zone.

However due to our location in the midst of lush green farms with stagnated water (as the crops are paddy & sugarcane) on all sides, we cannot eliminate the mosquito menace completely.

Please note:

    • Students are not allowed to bring any junk/packed food to school for the night out. Mobiles/ ipods/ ipads are not allowed and if found, will be confiscated.

  • Also, as per every year’s tradition, we will be having Night tournament (Student Led event) once again, wherein students will be provided with light snacks for which an amount of Rs. 150/- will be deducted from each student’s Imprest A/c.

We encourage all students to be present for the night out, it’s an event that children really enjoy and savour. There will be sufficient number of teachers and support staff to ensure that the students are safe and secure in the school apart from extra security arrangements for the event. The school also appoints a senior staff member (HOS/principal/ coordinators/ admin managers) as a safety monitor for the night out who ensures that all students are safe  in all ways.

Thanks,
