Grade 2: Highlights of the week!! (15th to 19th January 2018)

Math

  • Formative assessment to check their understanding on application of time and calendar was taken.

  • The concept of Array has been introduced.(A combination of rows and columns is called an ARRAY.)

Language

  • Read aloud of the story ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ along with the story elements was done.
  • To give a better understanding of paragraph formation, the students were introduced to structure of a story – beginning, middle and end.

Highlights of the week!! (2nd to 5th January 2018)

[Unit Of Inquiry]
  1. The students were tuned into a new unit through a learning engagement (group activity) which was executed in the class.
  2. Students reflected on their prior knowledge for the new unit.

Language

  1. Formative assessment and dictation was conducted.
  2. Nine Hats Reader-The students read chapter 1, 2 and 3 from Stuart Little story.
  3. Retelling of the story was done.

Math

  1. Formative assessment was conducted.
  2. Students practiced real life word problems related to the calendar and time.
  3. To the start with the concept of multiplication, the strategy of Grouping and set was introduced through manipulative.
  4. The Grouping strategy was practiced with the students’ involvement.

Kindly send an ‘Ice tray(properly labelled) with your child on Monday for a learning engagement.

Central idea: People use different art forms to express their culture.

  1. The students reflected on their overall understanding of the unit through a reflection sheet.
  2.  The students were tuned into a new unit through a learning engagement (group activity) which was executed in the class.

Language

  1. Students read chapter 6- from the reader ‘Nine Hats’.
  2. Formative assessment and dictation was conducted.

Math

  1. Students practiced real life word problems related to the calendar and time.

Transdisciplinary theme: How we express ourselves

Central idea: People use different art forms to express their culture.

  1. Students continued with their independent research and presented their understanding about their researched topic with the class.
  2. The TDT, Central Idea and the Inquiry cycle was revised with the students.
  3. Students reflected on their understanding in their journals.

Language:

Students read chapter 4 and 5- from the reader ‘Nine Hats’.

Dictation was conducted.

Math:

  1. Students practiced real life word problems related to the calendar and time.

Transdisciplinary theme: How we express ourselves

Central idea: People use different art forms to express their culture.

  1. Students revised- LOI- 3 Preserving the traditional art form (Responsibility). They reflected their understanding by answering the questions given in the journal.
  2. Formative assessment was conducted.
  3.  Students started with their independent research work.  

Language

  1. Comprehension – Students read the given passage and answered the questions on the worksheet.
  2. Formative assessment  and dictation was conducted.
  3. Started with the Reader “Nine hats”. Students read chapter 1 to 3- from the reader ‘Nine Hats’ using the reading comprehension strategy- “Monitoring inner conversation”.

Math

  1. Students practiced real-life word problems related to the calendar and time.
  2. The students learned about reading the time – o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past. They watched certain videos and understood the concept of 5-minutes.
  3. Formative assessment was conducted.

Transdisciplinary theme: How we express ourselves:

Central idea: People use different art forms to express their culture.

  1. The current unit is about how people use different art forms to express their culture. As a part of tuning in Grade 2 HRT’s  along with Arts team dressed up in traditional clothes and talked about the art forms like art, music, dance, drama etc. The teachers shared some information related to the culture they were representing and also showed some artifacts of the same culture to the students. Later unpacking of central idea was done.
  2. Since all sections are taking different culture (Discover and Think) are doing Gujarati culture. Teacher oriented students (I DO model) to Gujarati culture where they explored different art forms for the same.

Language

  1. The students read aloud the chapter ‘11- Fighting over things’ from Empowering English reference book.
  2. Formative assessment and Dictation was conducted.

Math

  1. Concept of reading the calendar was introduced. Later the students were explored to different calendars (Gujarati calendar, Hijri calendar) and  how to read a calendar.
  2. Students revised the concept of bar graph and formative assessment of interpretation of Bar graph was taken.

Transdisciplinary theme: How we express ourselves:

Central idea: People use different art forms to express their culture.

  1. The current unit is about how people use different art forms to express their culture.
