વાર્તા (कहानी)

શીર્ષક: સંપ ત્યાં જંપ

એક હતો ખેડૂત. તેને પાંચ દીકરા હતા. તે બધા બળવાન અને મહેનતુ હતા. પણ તેઓ અંદરોઅંદર એકબીજા સાથે લડતા-ઝઘડતા રહેતા હતા.

ખેડૂતની ઈચ્છા હતી કે પાંચેય દીકરા ઘરમાં સંપીને શાંતિથી રહે. એટલે તે એમને ખૂબ સમજાવતો. પરંતુ ખેડૂતની સલાહની દીકરાઓ પર કોઈ અસર થતી નહિ. તેથી ખેડૂત હંમેશા ચિંતાતુર રહેતો.

એ રોજ વિચાર કરતો કે આ છોકરા સંપીને રહે તે માટે શું કરવું જોઈએ? એક દિવસ અચાનક તેને ઉકેલ મળી ગયો. તેણે પાંચેય દીકરાને પોતાની પાસે બોલાવી કહ્યું: ‘જુઓ આ લાકડાની ભારીમાંથી એક પણ લાકડી કાઢ્યા વિના આખી ભારી તમારામાંથી કોણ તોડી શકે છે?’

ખેડૂતના દરેક દીકરાએ વારાફરતી લાકડાની એ ભારી હાથમાં લીધી. દરેકે તે ભારીને તોડવા બળપૂર્વક ખૂબ પ્રયત્ન કર્યો. પરંતુ એમાંથી કોઈ પણ એ ભારી તોડી ન શક્યો.

પછી પેલા ઘરડા ખેડૂતે કહ્યું: ‘ચાલો લાકડાની ભારી છોડી નાખો અને તેની લાકડી એક પછી એક તોડી નાખો.’ દરેકે એક પછી એક લાકડી હાથમાં લીધી અને સરળતાથી તોડી બતાવી.

પછી ખેડૂતે સલાહ આપતાં કહ્યું:

‘એક એક લાકડી સહેલાઈથી તૂટી ગઈ કેમકે તે મજબૂત નહોતી. પણ એ જ લાકડીઓ જ્યારે ભારીમાં બંધાયેલી હતી ત્યારે ખૂબ જ મજબૂત હતી. તમે પણ પાંચેય જણ સંપથી રહેશો તો મજબૂત બનશો પરંતુ લડી ઝઘડીને અલગ અલગ રહેશો તો કમજોર બની જશો.’

There was a farmer who had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the pups and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he Felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the Eyes of a little boy. Mister,” he said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.” “Well,” said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, “these pups come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.” The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. “I’ve got thirty-nine cents, Is that enough to take a look?” “Sure,” said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle, “Here , Dolly!” he called . Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur. The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse. Slowly another little ball appeared; this One noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward manner the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up…. “I want that one,” the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy’s side and said, “Son, you don’t want that puppy. It will never be able to run and play with you like the other pups would.” With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself To a specially made shoe. Looking back up at the farmer, he said, “You see sir, I don’t run too well myself, and he will need Someone who understands.” So he bought the puppy from the farmer and named it lucky because he feels that the puppy was very lucky to have a master that understands how he felt . After bringing lucky home from that farm the little boy showed the handicap pup to his parents. His mum and dad understood how the boy felt and allowed the boy to keep it. He brought Lucky up to his room and prepared a place for Lucky to sleep . The next morning the boy saw that Lucky was sick . He tried to give Lucky some milk but Lucky wouldn’t drink it . He tried doing everything he could to help the sick handicap pup but nothing worked so finally he tried asking his parents for some help . They brought him to a vet for a check up to see what’s wrong with the pup . The veterinarian said to try and bring the pup to his mother because the pup wasn’t actually sick but he might be missing his mum seeing that he is barely 2 weeks old . So the little boy decides to bring Lucky to visit the farm where his mother and siblings are and it worked . It turns out that Lucky actually misses the presence of his mother and siblings after seeing them Lucky looked so happy . So the boy had decided to bring Lucky on a walk everyday to that farm so that he’ll be happy since that Lucky and the boy had lived happily . The moral of the story is that the world is full of people and animals who need someone to understand how they feel.

बचपन में मियां शेख चिल्ली को मौलवी साहब नें शिक्षा दी थी कि  लड़के और लड़की के लिए अलग अलग शब्दों का प्रावधान होता है। उदाहरण के तौर पर “सुलतान खाना खा रहा है” लेकिन “सुलताना खाना खा रही है।”

मियां शेख चिल्ली नें मौलवी साहब की यह सीख गाठ बांध ली।

फिर एक दिन मियां शेख चिल्ली जंगल से गुज़र रहे थे। तभी उन्हे किसी कुएं के अंदर से किसी के चिल्लाने की आवाज़ आई। वह फौरन वहाँ दौड़ कर जा पहुंचे। उन्होंने  देखा की वहाँ कुए में एक लड़की गिरि पड़ी थी और वह मदद के लिए चिल्ला रही थी।

मियां शेख चिल्ली तुरंत दौड़ कर अपने दोस्तों के पास गए और उन्हे बोलने लगे कि वहाँ कुएं के अंदर एक लड़की गिरि पड़ी है और वह मदद के लिए चिल्ली  रही है।

मियां शेख चिल्ली और उनके दोस्तों नें मिल कर उस लड़की को कुएं से बाहर निकाल लिया।

फिर घर जाते वक्त मियां शेख चिल्ली के एक दोस्त नें यह सवाल किया कि  मियां शेख आप लड़की चिल्ली रही….चिल्ली रही… क्यों बोले जा रहे थे?

तब मियां शेख के एक पुराने दोस्त नें खुलासा किया कि मौलवी साहब नें मियां शेख को पढ़ाया था की लड़का होगा तो… खाना खा रहा है, और लड़की हुई तो खाना खा रही है इसी हिसाब से मियां शेख नें लड़की के चिल्लाने पर “चिल्ली रही” शब्द का प्रयोग किया।

मियां शेख चिल्ली के सारे दोस्त मियां शेख की इस मूर्खता पर पेट पकड़ कर हंस पड़े और तभी से मियां शेख बन गए “मियां शेख चिल्ली” पड़ गया ।


लिखते समय सही वर्तनी (spelling ) का प्रयोग करें और शब्दों के लिए ऊपर दी गई कहानी से मदद लें |

When a sentence is written, it can either be written in active voice or passive voice.

  • Active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. For example: Tom changed the flat tire.
  • Passive voice describes a sentence where the subject is acted upon by the verb.

Directions: Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow


Have you ever heard the sound of a hummingbird? They make a buzzing noise when they fly. They make this noise because they beat their wings so fast. They beat their wings up to 80 times a second. All that flapping makes a lot of noise. That’s why we call them hummingbirds.

Hummingbirds fly in a unique way. They move their wings so fast that they can hover. This means that they can stay in one spot in the middle of the air, like a helicopter. Sometimes they fly or hover upside down. They are the only bird that flies backward.

Hummingbirds are small. One type called the bee hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world. Bee hummingbirds weigh less than a penny. They are just a little bit bigger than bees. I guess that’s where they get their name.

Bee hummingbirds build tiny nests. They use cobwebs and bits of bark to make their homes. Their homes are only an inch around. This is big enough for their eggs though. Their eggs are smaller than peas. People have found these tiny nests on a clothespin.

Hummingbirds move fast. It takes lots of energy to move as fast as they do. This means that they need to eat a lot of food. Their favourite food is nectar, a sweet liquid inside of some flowers. They drink more than their own weight in nectar daily. They have to visit hundreds of flowers to get enough nectar to live. They can only store enough energy to survive through the night. They live on the edge.

Hummingbirds don’t use their long beaks like straws. They have a tongue just like you. They use their tongues for eating. They flick their tongues in and out of their mouths while inside of flowers. They lap up nectar. Flowers give them the energy that they need.

Hummingbirds help flowers too. They get pollen on their heads and bills when they feed. Flowers use pollen to make seeds. Hummingbirds help pollen get from one flower to the next. This helps flowers make more seeds. More seeds means more flowers. More flowers means more food for hummingbirds. Isn’t it nice how that works out.
