Infrastructure Updates: 2017-18

Infrastructure Updates: 2017-18

Ushering in the new academic year with a few changes on campus. We have carried out some modification and restoration work at school during the summer break this year. Here is a detailed summary of the same:

Replacement of Roof in Rendezvous

The metal structure of the roof in Rendezvous was corroded and needed replacement. The new structure is of durable quality and is guaranteed to last at least 25 years. The new roof has given a refreshed look to the area.

Jr. KG & Sr. KG Classroom Renovation – (Air Circulation / Daylight)

Both the wings required aeration and lighting, hence the adjacent wall (the wall next to Drome) has been knocked down to provide more daylight and increase circulation of air in the area.

Internet Bandwidth (RF to Fiber) – 110 Mbps to 310 Mbps

As a tech savvy school, we are highly dependent on the internet and hence require high data speed at all times. To overcome the shortcomings related to data we have shifted to City Broadband which will  provide us with a high speed of 310 Mbps. Also, City Broadband works on fiber cable and therefore there are lesser chances of disruption due to bad weather conditions. We will also be the first school/organization in Surat to provide such high speed data.

New Buses

We constantly strive to reduce transport time for students. With this in mind and also to ease transport congestion we have purchased 2 new buses this year. This will help us to accommodate new routes as well as new students and teachers.

Drinking Water (Ground)

The water fountain on school grounds has been given a makeover.

RCC Road

We have recently constructed a RCC road which was earlier made up of paver blocks as we used to face issues like pavers coming out and becoming uneven thus making it uncomfortable for students and others to walk. This area is mostly used as a roundabout turning point for school buses.

Lab Renovation (Air circulation / Daylight)

We have installed sliding windows to increase air circulation and provide better natural light in the Chemistry, Biology and Physics Labs. Safety shower, eye washer, sink and a wash-up area have been added in Biology lab.

Lunch in the classroom

The most recent change brought about in FS is the shifting of meal time venues. Now the classroom will be used as a dining room during meal times. The idea behind this change is to reduce transition time for students and also help them inculcate etiquette of eating without spillage, since they will be responsible for cleaning their tables and classroom after meals. Another advantage of this change is a reduction in the amount of food wastage which has always been our primary concern.

Educational Trip – Senior School (2018-19)

Educational Trip – Senior School (2018-19)

Dear Parent,

Every year FS students get to explore their curriculum through Educational trips & Nature camps. These trips not only widen their academic understanding, but also succeed in bringing the students out of their comfort zone. These excursions teach them to get accustomed to an environment where they respond to the challenges which in turn, develop personal leadership skills. They are compelled to work with each other which helps them develop empathy and understanding towards others perspectives. Students overcome the fear of being on their own and show a great deal of courage and adaptability to anything and everything, but more importantly to the very uniqueness of Nature!

Parents need to inform school in advance whether their child will be coming for the educational trip or not by filling the Educational Trip Registration form.

  • The partial amount i.e. Rs 5,000/- has already been included in the Imprest deposit. Additional cost (approximate) for the trip is mentioned below with the details.
  • The school highly recommends that no student misses the nature camp/excursion.
  • It is mandatory for parents to fill the Educational Trip Registration form irrespective of whether the child IS COMING OR NOT COMING for the educational trip.  Last date to submit the form is 10 August 2018. This form is accessible only via parents email id.
  • If you have more than 1 child studying in school, fill 2 separate forms from respective parents email id.

  • Last date to submit the confirmation form is 10th August, 2018. If we do not receive any response from your end before the deadline, we will assume that your child will not be coming for Educational trip.

Booking will commence after 10th August. We will proceed with the booking once we receive the consent, even if the cheque/amount is not submitted by 30th August.

Later, cancellation charges will be applicable as mentioned below on the total cost of the trip.

Blocksi: New Chromebook Monitoring System, Filtering & Anti-Theft 2018-19

Blocksi: New Chromebook Monitoring System, Filtering & Anti-Theft 2018-19

Dear Parent,

We have been using Chromebooks for students since past five academic sessions. We strive to ensure our best capability that these devices are used for educational purpose, and do not cause a distraction to student learning. It is also important for us to ensure that our students view their Chromebooks as a “learning device” and not an “entertainment device”.

Earlier we were using Goguardian to monitor Chromebooks but as it is no longer authorized to sell to regions outside the US, parts of Canada, and the UK (this limitation was put in place internally at GoGuardian), we are introducing a new Chromebook monitoring system – Blocksi.

With Blocksi, schools have the option to protect and filter students, on and off campus. Please refer the detailed features of Blocksi here.

Applicable for: (Students and Parents- Grade 5 onward)

The policies/restrictions will be effective only on Chromebooks. On any other devices, students/ parents will have unlimited access, and won’t be restricted by Blocksi.net. In most cases, students are not required to use other internet-enabled devices, but in case they have access to other devices, then we advise that parents monitor them as well. If parents wish to install a firewall then it will have to be at the local router level.

This software will be applicable by default to both, parent and student email id. Ideally, according to our recommendation, parents should not share passwords with their child.

Pricing:

Cost for two users (Student & Parent) Annual subscription charges are $5 per user which will mean $10 for student and parent account. Based on the exchange rate on the day of purchase, the final amount will be deducted from the imprest deposit in the month of July/August 2018.

Regards,

IT Team,

Fountainhead School.
