Grade 6, An Insight to our Business Unit

Grade 6, An Insight to our Business Unit

The business unit started under the TDT HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES, with the central idea ORGANIZING AND OPERATING A BUSINESS REQUIRES A MULTITUDE OF SKILLS.

TUNING IN:

Tuning in started with passing the ball activity where learners were asked questions related to the word business. The students sat in a group and answered guided questions thrown to them as per their knowledge of business. The ball was taken & then thrown at each student so that each one gets a chance to answer and voice their point of view. Any extra questions were put up on the wonder wall. The central idea was unpacked through the video of Tech visionary Steve Jobs.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

We had a number of guest speakers who shared their insights and experiences about business with our learner. We had Mr. Hiren Kapasia who explained the importance of creating value for your business. We had Dr. Nirav Shah who explained the difference between service and business. Lastly we had Mr. Mahesh Patel who shared the importance of management in operating a business.

FIELD TRIPS:

We visited the Hajoori’s Ice cream Factory to understand the various steps involved in operating a business. The learners also had an in school field trip where they learnt about the various departments that work in conjunction to make a business venture successful.

LEARNING ENGAGEMENTS:

A quiz was conducted in class to assess their understanding of the unit. The students prepared time-line of a businessman in their family. They also prepared interviews of businessmen by reading books on entrepreneurs and stories which talked about business. This was done as part of the language-UOI integration.

BUSINESS FAIR:

This activity was the most exciting part of this unit. The students had to conduct a business fair wherein they had to decide their own venture and work on it for three days. The fair was conducted in school. The students had to take a loan for the business and manage the accounts by themselves. They were taught how to maintain accounting sheets through the Monopoly game.

The students designed their own Web page using the Weebly site to promote their business. They had to put up schemes and offers if they wished to on this page. They designed posters for their stalls and displayed them in school for promoting and advertising their business.

The entire school community visited the fair and encouraged our entrepreneurs in their venture. It was a great learning experience.

Students were awarded business certificates in certain categories. The winners to these awards were decided through voting.

These certificates were handed over to the students during the assembly and their hard work was appreciated by the entire school.
