Do you want to make your child more responsible and independent? Is it justified to expect our kids to do household chores? Do you want to make your child more organized?
We are glad to announce our parenting workshop on ‘THE JOY OF DOING THINGS’.
Today, the life of our children is busier than ever before. Homework loads are heavier and many kids start extracurricular activities at a very young age. This, coupled with internet and the easy connection to friends, today our kids hardly get a few breaks from social demands and stimulation. With more activities crammed into their lives than ever before, it is crucial that kids develop organizational skills and the virtues of being independent, responsible and competent before they could step out on their own and make their mark on the world.
One very simple way of resolving the crisis is by giving our children real life training exercises through household chores. Chores not only teach children important life skills that prepare them for living on their own, and impart a pull-your-own weight work ethic , but recent studies reveal that starting chores at an early age gives children an enormous benefit in other areas of their life as well, namely – academic, emotional and behavioral.
Simultaneously, developing organizational skill goes hand-in-hand with the above mentioned virtues. A few kids seem naturally organized, but for the rest, organization is a skill learned over time. With help and some practice, kids can develop an effective approach to getting stuff done. The issue to be resolved is that a child’s capacity for productive work varies from culture to culture. Successful resolution of this crisis helps the child to feel competent, responsible and independent.
In order to inculcate skills or bring about change, we, as parents need to set ourselves as an example for our children.
