Updates: Students have made oral as well as submitted written presentations on “making connections” assignment with reference to Old Man and the Sea featuring their skills, understanding and confidence. We have commenced with the third reader Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. We have done an activity “humour hunt” to tap into the unit wherein students have hit upon discovering humour around us, shaped and structured it as well as shared it in the class. They have analysed and discussed their interpretation of Calvin and Hobbes quips and the varied themes that they encompass. They have delved into a detailed biography of the author Bill Watterson inclusive of his writing style, reviews and convictions.

Task type: non research based (Internet usage not required)

Estimated time: 40-50 minutes

Date of Submission: 21/01/2013

Calvin has a short story assignment for school and handles it just as you would expect. I have included the first three here. Your task is to write an extension to these quips and complete the cartoon story/series delivering an appropriate ending to it.
