Dear Parents,

In the context of  our new unit “How we express ourselves”, we are celebrating color day in the coming week Friday i.e. 1st Feb’2013. On that day, the learners are supposed to come dressed  in GREEN color dress. They are also supposed to bring any  picture/drawing/prop/live object ( labelled) which is originally found in that color. Through this activity,the learner’s knowledge about importance and reflections of different colors will be enhanced.

Reflection was taken on the game Snatching the ball which the students played in PE class.

Bullying

Students coloured the faces which indicated emotions such as sad, worried and scared on the basis of some situations given to them on how would they feel if they were bullied by someone.

  • Gallery walk- Different pictures were put up and learners did the gallery walk. They reflected what came to their mind after looking at each picture through visual arts.
  • Mime Play: A teacher from drama team had come to the class with mime face and she expressed different  emotions through mime.
  • Painting: Learners did free painting  and expressed their own PERSPECTIVES.

Teachers displayed the different smileys of various emotions in the class. The students expressed their feelings by putting the Popsicle sticks in the particular emotion.

Word of the week: Perspective

Language:

    Gallery walk- Different kinds of paintings were displayed.  Learners took a walk through these and reflected their perspective about the paintings.
  •  Mime Play:  The drama teacher introduced the concept of MIME by expressing herself through mime.
  • Painting: Learners did free painting and expressed their own PERSPECTIVES about their painting.

Word of the week: Verbal & Non-verbal, perspective

Read aloud:

  • “Three little pigs” – We discussed different characters and their feelings and  expressions . Learners talked about different expressions they saw on the animals’ faces in that book and came up with words like brave, confident, scared, sad, happy etc.

Language :

Introduction of ‘ip’ family: dip, hip, lip, sip, tip, zip, slip, ship, clip, flip.

Writing of these words in notebook.

Worksheet on ‘it’ and ‘ip’ family.

Revision of the “it” word families through pictures and word flash cards.

UOI : HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES:

Central Idea- We can express ourselves in different ways.

Tuning In activity:

  •  Teacher displayed  different  expressions and learners went in that corner to express their feelings.
  • Gallery walk- Different paintings were put up and learners were taken for a  gallery walk. They reflected what came to their mind after looking at each picture through visual arts.   They came up with happy, sad, scared, enjoying, etc.
  •  Mime Act: Juhi Ma’am ( Drama teacher) visited the class and showed different expressions and her feelings through facial gestures and actions.

This led to the understanding that we can express ourselves by speaking ( verbally ) and also without speaking ( non- verbally).

Visual Art activity: Free hand painting using different art materials.
