Tuning In with Exploration table: Harmony

Tuning In with Exploration table: Harmony

Through four Exploration tables students understood that, what are the resources available to us and why some of the resources are limited and how do we harm our environment? Whole class divided into four groups through different grouping strategies.
Exploration table 1: On first table doll was kept with the question paper “What are the things  needed for a baby to survive?” The learners discussed about it in a group and wrote down their answers on the given question paper.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Exploration table 2: A poem “Clean up the Earth” was kept with the question paper “What do you understand from this poem?” on the table. After reading the poem the learners wrote down their understanding.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Exploration table 3: Some waste was kept on the table. The learners had to observe them and answer the questions like, 1. Which natural resources you think are wasted? 2. What do we do with this waste? 3. What is our responsibility?                                                                                                                                                  4. What do you think which concepts are focused here and why?                                                                                                                                                                                            Exploration table 4: On the fourth table the learners had to watch a video “Our planet-video on pollution” and discuss on the question “What you have observed in this video?”

Learners explored different tables to gain better understanding...

OUR INQUIRY CYCLE

inquiry_cycle.JPG

We started the unit with the 1st stage of inquiry cycle.

Tuning in: To tune in learners for this unit, four exploration tables held a video on ‘pollution’, a poem on ‘keep clean’, ‘some waste’ products followed by provocative questions in diamond graphic organizer and a ‘doll’ was kept (This is the same learning engagement which was conducted during the 3rdPCM). Learners displayed their curiosity to explore all the tables and gave their reflection on the same. Later, in KLWQA chart they filled up the first criteria ‘K’ i.e. “What I know”.

LANGUAGE:  Learners were introduced with the article “the” by showing an animated video. After watching the video they were given exercise to solve in the notebook.

MATH: Learners were introduced with the word problems of simple and carry over addition where they learnt how to solve real life examples. They also revised borrowing subtraction.

Apart from the H.W. worksheet given, we have posted online math H.W on blog. So encourage our young learner to submit it before Monday.

Runa

UOI: The Learners played Broken Squares. The learners were divided in group of 5 and each learner was given an envelope with 3 different pieces. The goal for each learner was to put together a complete square, thus making 5 squares each. There were some interesting rules :
1) The squares should be of equal size.
2) Group members were not allowed to talk to each other.
3) They were not allowed to take pieces from someone else’s envelope.

The learning intention was that communication is necessary to play any game.

The skills involved in this game were gross motor and thinking skills.

The Big picture : They watched a picture and made connections with the Key Concepts – ‘Perspective’ .

Language: Learners are doing reader “Play ball, Amelia Bedelia”. They were asked to draw and explain what will happen next in the reader.
