Highlights of the week (10/03/14 – 13/03/14)

[Unit Of Inquiry]The learners wrote their reflection on the complete Unit ‘Who we are’ as a part of their Summative Assessment. They focused on their strengths and weaknesses, using a spiral graphic organizer.

Language

Revision of pronoun and singular-plural was done. Read a paragraph on prepositions from the book Empowering English – Ch.14 and did tasks related to prepositions and adjectives in their note books. Introduction of ‘Demonstrative Pronoun’ – (This, That, These & Those) was done through a video and discussion. Dictation words for the week were given and their meanings were explained. The words are acknowledging, perspective, rewards, teamwork, invasion, truth, reflection, conflict and opinion.

Learning Center: (1) Learners visited the ‘Writing Center’ and revised various grammar concepts. (2) The learners also visited ‘Listening Center’ and explored various workstations.

Math

The learners solved mixed word problems in their note books. Revision of clock was also done once again.

Learning Center: Learners visited the ‘Math Center’ and explored various workstations, thus revising the concepts.

[Circle Time]Revision of all the grammar concepts were done through morning tasks, daily grammar as well as exit card.

ICT

The learners played few interactive games of the FSICT app.

Homework

Lang: (1) Write an imaginative story on any one topic / title of your choice that can never come true. (2) Learners have to choose any 2 words from the words- conflict, challenges, truth and teamwork and fill the given graphic organizer worksheet.

Math: Do the worksheet given.

Note: The schedule and the amount to be charged for the GIR trip will shortly be updated on the blog.

Settling Time : Wrote meanings of the words from the word wall on their own.

[Circle Time]

Learners prepared a small paragraph of 3-4 lines using 3 prepositions and 3 pronouns and presented on the same in front of the class.

Language

Introduced “Demonstrative pronouns” through an open ended discussions after which they watched a video. They even wrote the definition and examples for the same in their notebook.

Math

Practiced the concept of “Pictograph” on the worksheet given.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Discussed the whole unit “Who we are” in detail including all the key concepts, trans-disciplinary skills, learner profile, lines of inquiry and attitude. Summative assessment taken for the unit “Who we are” in a spiral reflection.

Homework

1) Math worksheet given. 2) Write an imaginative story on your own which can never come true in real life.

UOI: Students watched the power point presentation on the various locations like the equator, Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, North Pole, South Pole, the hemispheres on maps and globes. Later on they showed their understanding on a blank world map by identifying the above mentioned locations.

Learning Intention: How do we learn the orientation of places on the earth and the usage of maps for the same?

Math: Students learnt to record and organize data in a bar graph. They collected data on the heights in centimeters, of their friends in the class and made a bar graph of the same.

13/03/2014 Grade 8 Language Assignment and Updates

Updates: We are gearing up for the English Checkpoint exam scheduled on April 01, 2014 by regularly doing practise exercises from Checkpoint workbook. The student led sessions have already begun for revising language component with reference to Checkpoint exams. Two sessions have been successfully conducted so far:

1. Simple, Compound and Complex sentences session led by Mustafa Chasmai, Viraat Golechha and Chirag Sawlani, that comprised of revising with examples the types of sentences, exercises on simple, compound and complex sentences.

2. Summary Writing session led by Tanvi Andrea and Nishtha Jain, that included a video demonstrating the process of summarising effectively, detailed explanation on topic sentences, supporting sentences and concluding sentences, summary writing practise on the basis of magazine articles.
