Dear students,

Today we discussed the possible ways in which you may open or close a letter. The letters may be formal and Informal. We discussed, what may be an appropriate opening and closing line to:

  • Break good news
  • Offer suggestions
  • Complain
  • Appreciate
  • Demand action
  •  Apologise
  • Request
  • Apply for leave/job

Keeping the discussion in mind attempt the below letters:

PLEASE WRITE ALL THREE LETTERS

Formal Letters:

1. Imagine you are an Adventure tour guide(Cathy/John), write a letter offering your tour suggestion to client (James Mathews) who wants a luxury trip to Singapore which includes a 5 nights stay, adventure sports and a great place to stay.

2. You are (Cathy/John), write a letter to a Pearl diver rejecting his Leave application of two weeks.  Provide a valid reason for your rejection

Informal Letter

3. You are (Cathy/John), imagine your friend James Mahews has just become a Pilot. It is his first flight from Mumbai to Sri Lanka. Write a letter giving him best wishes for his first flight and expressing your happiness at his achievement.
