Learners made posters of ‘SAVE TREES’ with illustrations describing message that Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â we should not cut trees because if there are Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â ‘No trees…No life’Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â . They displayed the posters in the corridor along with their peers.

Learners continued with multiplication. They learnt about the terms ‘multiplier and multiplicand’ and wrote the definition for the same in their notebook. They even learnt about the property for 0 and 1 i.e. 4*0 = 0 Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â and 4*1 = 4.

## Grade 3 Illuminate Highlights and Homework – 31st March’14

Students are practicing for the X-Box performance all these days with one learning happening everyday.

UOI – Students learnt to research on the climate of a place and the factors affecting it. They learnt to locate countries and cities in particular. Today they learnt the difference in various maps and their uses. The physical map, political map, climatic map and occupational map.

Learning objective: Orientation of the Earth and understanding places better using the components of various maps.

Language: Students learnt to write a triangle triplet poem.

Learning objective: To appreciate various forms of poetry writing.

Math: Students learnt to draw and interpret line graphs.

Learning objective: Data handling – Organizing data using various graphs.

Homework:

UOI – Write a short description of your understanding on each of these types of maps:

Political map, physical map, climatic map and occupational map.

Draw a world map on a white paper and label it with all the components that you know. Colour different components in different colors and make a map key below.

## PYP-Exhibition Update

The PYP Exhibition unit began with the simulated conflict between the Grade 6 teachers whichÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â was solved using OPV (Other PeopleÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Views) and CAF (Considering All Factors). StudentsÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â watched the movie, ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œChillar PartyÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â to get the key words of the TDT and Central idea. The movieÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â was an eye-opener for them and they realized that Action requires a lot of brainstorming,Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â creativity and can be taken by children as young as them.

The Central idea ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“Finding peacefulÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â solutions to conflicts leads to a better quality of human life, was revealed through a crosswordÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â puzzle and the prior knowledge was assessed through questions based on the TDT and CentralÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â idea.

During the PEACE activity students in groups were asked to represent PEACE on chart paperÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â through quotes, images etc. and then move to another groupÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s art work and destroy it. TheyÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â were then asked to return to their tables and re-construct their chart .This activity evokedÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â responses like- It is easy to hate but difficult to love.

A read-aloud of Catch the Crocodile, madeÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â them realize that big problems can have simple solutions. Guest speaker session by Mr.VardanÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â Kabra, HOS, helped them understand certain real-life conflicts and the probable solutionsÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â Students learnt that conflicts can be resolved peacefully by implementing 7 Habits, kindnessÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â and using I-Statements. The video on The Zaks helped students understand the importanceÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â of understanding others perspectives.

Students were shown videos, photographs of issuesÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â and asked to map them to our POI. Students also learnt the various forms of taking Action-Awareness, Aide, Advocacy through videos and DFC (feel, imagine, do and share).

Students were then asked to choose 5 topics/issues that were close to their hearts in orderÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â of importance, and the probable Actions to solve the issues. Based on the topics they wereÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â grouped into 15 groups having 4 members each. Each group is assigned a mentor and underÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â the able guidance of the Mentors students have been working on their research ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“primary,Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â secondary research through surveys, interviews, books, internet, meeting experts etc.

TheyÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â are also creating their Action plan to solve/curb the issues. With just two more weeks to go forÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â the PYP Exhibition, the Grade 6 classrooms are filled with enthusiastic learners all set to-Be theÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â change they want to see in the world!!!

Settling Time:

Practiced mixed sums of addition and subtraction.

Language

Learners watched a PPT on Verb Tenses and did an exercise relating to the same.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Watched 2 videos on the unit “Sharing the planet” and had an open ended discussion on the same including the importance of life cycle.

ICT

Learners were introduced with Power point Presentation and the use of it. They were even explained the various features of it. For example: slides, layout, etc.

Homework

Learners have to do the pages marked in their comprehension workbook.

Note: Learners need to complete the story made by them in “Story Jumper” and get the print of it by Wednesday. They have already been given the deadline to finish it long back. Parents, kindly make sure the child finish it by Wednesday.

Highlights :

UOI :Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â A video on Demand and Supply was shown to the learners and a reflection of the same was taken in the class. This helped them toÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â learn new terms and understand the concepts of supply, demand,scarcity,surplus,production,consumption,market.

After these terms were introduced and explained, learners wrote what they had understood about the same in their UOI notebook.

Language :Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â A video on Conjunctions was shown to the learners through which they learnt about the different types of Conjunctions(Coordinating, Subordinating and Correlative)and their usage. They also solved Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â few worksheets(orally) Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â in the class for the same.

Math :Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â Learners watched a video on the difference between Prime and Composite numbers and how to identify the same.

2) Introduced new spellings of the week- “writing, natural, causation, forest, species, impact, habitat, multiplication, repeated and environment.” Learners were also explained the meanings of the same.

1) Learners watched the video related to this unit.

2) Learners uncovered the central idea through a “Word search” worksheet.
