English Highlights of the Week_Grade 9 Serendipity_Eureka_Fortuity_August 1

Dear Parents

This week the students of Grade 9 visited Gavier Lake. This was done in connection to their unit “The Phoenix” which is a satire on animal abuse. After completion of the short story articles of animal abuse were shared with students. Through this the students understood how human ruthlessness is responsible for the rapidly decaying ecosystems.

While the damage caused is irreparable to an extent, yet there are many organizations which are contributing towards the conservation of nature and its creation. Gavier Lake is one such man made ecosystem. The visit brought students closer to nature and they understood that to what extent is human activity responsible for this painful deterioration.

The students were then expected to write a persuasive letter to the editor elucidating upon animal abuse and how steps are being taken to conserve the ecosystems.

These letters were read out in class and IGCSE band descriptors were shared with students. They were also given a range (Consistent/frequent/sometimes/rarely) to mark the content of the essays. We first read around 3-4 letters and analysed them as a class and later through peer checking the students marked each other.
Self-directed learning blended with tangible experiences makes learning effortless and efficient.

French_What was the last week about?

Hi all,

We began the the week that was with your unit test, a consolidation of the unit that we completed ‘ Renseignments personnels’. The next class, we discussed your performance in the test and set goals for what you would want to achieve by the end of August.

In the other two classes that we had, we started the next unit on Apparence et Caractere; you learnt colours through a video, did a wordsearch and google search to learn clothing and learnt professions through an online quiz. We then applied our learning as we chose two professions and described them using the vocabulary learnt.

You could access everything that we did in class in the task list that has been shared with you.

Reminder:  The HW that was given last week, and the deadline was extended must be submitted on Monday. Late submissions will not be accepted.

We don’t have a class on Monday, but you will still submit it before EoD.

Have a fun weekend!

Regards,

Smruti
