Day-1

Highlights

Maths: Teacher tied a  ganit mala in the class. Teacher had mentioned that there are 100 beads in the ganit mala. Learners were clear that the whole here consists of 100 beads. Teacher handed over one chit to each learner(on each chit a fraction was mentioned). Fractions – 1/2, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 1/10, 2/10, 3/10, 4/10, 5/10, 6/10, 7/10, 8/10, 9/10, 1/1, 5/20, 10/20, 15/20, etc. Teacher then called one by one each learner to come and place the chit on the ganit mala with the help of clips.

When all learner were done with placing the chits, teacher had taken up the discussion in the class about the activity.

Langauge:  Learners found out interesting facts about spider with the help of different books in the library and made a rough draft of step-1 of Big-6.

Library: Learners had their final performance in the readers theatre.

UOI: A mock session of an interview was conducted by the teacher in the class for the Tuning in activity of the new unit of UOI. A short discussion was taken on the same.

Homework:

UOI: Complete the questions given in the UOI notebook.

Language: Create a list of 8 exciting and scientific facts about spiders. You must create a spider as your graphic organizer. List the facts on the spider’s legs. Decorate your paper with a picture of some kind. Be CREATIVE! Also, on the back side of the A-3 size sheet do mention the big-6 steps, as discussed in Library.

Note: Day 5 will be followed on Monday 22/9/2014

Settling time: Learners wrote the names of the months having 30 days.

Language

[Read Aloud]

Empowering English: Learners were read a part of the chapter “The monkey and the crocodile” from the reference book “Empowering English” where they were explained the purpose of using “the” as an article for the animals and not “a” as it is talking about the particular animal in the story.

Language with ease: Learners practiced the concept of grammar from the reference book.

Math

Learners were introduced a new concept “Carroll diagram” where they practiced the concept of odd and even numbers.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Learners were shown the world map and were given time to explore the countries and cities in groups. They were then asked to write their perspective on the following question:

Where would they like to go when they grow up (considering shifting and not travelling)? Write the reason for the same. They came up with reasons like to set up a business, to study or better education, the shops and malls are big over there, to learn about animals, etc. Keep it up!

Homework

Learners need to complete the graphic organizer given where they need to write the meaning, opposite, illustrate and make sentence on the word “sluggish.”

Note: Changed the leadership roles during the play time.

On Monday, roll number 12 needs to make a story on the given words and bring a new vocabulary. Day 5 will be followed on Monday.

Language: Read aloud of Chapter 10 done by the teacher. Later the teacher discussed the Big Six Research on ‘Spider’ with the learners. Step 1,  Step 2,  Step 3,  and Step 4,  were discussed in the class.

UOI: A mock session of an interview was conducted by the teacher in the class for the Tuning in activity of the new unit of UOI.

Homework:

UOI: Learners need to ask following questions for the interview(Parents and Grand Parents): (To be done in UOI notebook)

Language: Learners can  refer the links posted on parent and student email id to research on ‘Spider’. ( Step 3 and Step 4 ) to be done in the language notebook.

  • Introduction  of the numbers  51 to 60 through ganit mala , montero cubes and concept of tens and ones on the board. Writing 51 to 60 in Math 3 book – page 47.
  • After, between, before numbers in Math book 3- 51, 52, 53.

Centre 1: Montero cubes (Represent the given numbers through the montero cubes )

Centre 2: Skip count by 2.( 1 to 60)

Tuning In stage:

Discussion on different ‘feelings’.

Difference between feelings and emotions.

Discussion on what is an ‘idea’?

Happy, Sad and Scary days were celebrated, after which reflection was taken about these feelings- When do you feel happy/sad/scared?

Introduction of the emotion- “embarrassed and shy”

Highlights

UOI:

A session was taken up in the class upon how the students would be conducting  an interview of their parents as well as grandparents separately. They have written the questions that need to be answered in their UOI notebook.

Following are the questions:

Parents –
1) What did you eat when you were young?
2) How did you travel when you were young?
3) How did you communicate when you were young?
4)How did you dress when you were young?
5) How did you spend your spare time when you were young?

Grandparents-
1) What did you eat when you were young?
2) How did you travel when you were young?
3) How did you communicate when you were young?
4)How did you dress when you were young?
5) How did you spend your spare time when you were young?

Language:

Dictation was taken up in the class. Students continued reading their Charlotte’s web.

Learners continued with their Big 6 research work on spiders using Chromebooks.

Math:

The students were divided into groups of 4 .The teacher handed over an A-4 white sheet (rough paper). The students were asked to make a square from that sheet. The paper was then to be folded into 1/2, then 1/4, then 1/8. Ask the students to cut these 8 parts . Once they had these 8 parts, the teacher asked them to show the following no. sequence- 1 of 1/8, 2 of 1/8, 3 of 1/8, 4 of 1/8, 5 of 1/8, 6 of 1/8, 7 of 1/8. Till then the fractions are called as proper fractions & the characteristic of it is that the ” numerator is less than the denominator”. Later the teacher takes up 9 pieces of 1/8 = 9/8, tell the students it is called improper fractions & in this the numerator is more than the denominator.

The students wrote the definition of improper fraction in their own words in their math notebook, with few examples of the same.

Homework:

UOI: Answer the questions in your UOI notebook while interviewing your parents and grandparents in English.

Settling time: Learners were asked to make sentences using the word “under” and “behind”.

Learners review their yesterday’s reflection on where they would like to go when they grow up and why and made correction of the same.

Language

Learners were introduced six writing traits that is idea, organization, voice, conventions, vocabulary and sentences. This will help them how to arrange their thoughts while writing any piece.

Language Development: Learners revised grammar concepts through Language with Ease reference book.

Ans:  roses- color-red, smell-fragrant, condition- beautiful, quality- fresh, number- dozen, texture- tender and so on.

4) Change the verb and see how the meaning changes.

5) Does the verb have a helping verb?

Yes, the verb ‘buying’ has a helping verb, ‘is’.

Oral chanting of verb conjugation was done: I clean, you clean, he cleans, she cleans, it cleans, we clean, you clean, they clean.

Oral chanting of formal way of talking was done:

Did you clean the top of the cupboard?

Yes, I did clean the top of the cupboard as it was very dirty.

No, I didn’t clean the top of the cupboard as I could not reach the top.

Math

Learners revised concept of addition and subtraction through an activity.  They were divided in the groups of 4 and were given mixed sums and asked to segregate them in proper column.

U.O.I: Tuning-in Activity -  Learners have to interview their parents and grandparents on the following questions –
( If grandparents don’t live with them, they can interview any elderly neighbours)

Revision of small letters [ a,b,c,d,e,f] along with the sound and its association with pictures

Learners were given clay/chalks and they were asked to make/write letters a-f with correct formation.

Math:

Seriation with manipulatives, flashcards and numbers.

Revision  of Patterns

Learners revised  2 attribute of patterns [ABAB]They made connections with real life patterns too.) Learners understood that they see patterns around them in real life.

Forward counting: 1- 9 (through ladder activity & train activity)

Association of number: 1-9(through different learning engagement)

Guided Play 1:- Learners were divided into 2 groups and they had a quiz between 2 groups, where teacher asked question based on the words starting from letter a-f. learners had to give the correct word and could score points.

Important Points:-

  • Kindly practice recognition,sound and association of the small letters a,b,c,d, e and f with your ward.

 

  • Kindly note we are focusing only on the small alphabets, so please do the same at home. Capital letters will be done later in the year.
  • Practice recognition, association and forward counting of numbers [1-9] regularly with your child.
  • Please send 2 lap size napkins regularly in the school bag and keep the lunch box and napkin in 1 small carry bag. (Kindly ignore if you are already sending it in this manner)
  • Kindly sign in diary for note/circular. Also take out circular from the diary.Please mention about the things sent ( objects, library books) etc. in diary.(When you send to teacher)
  • Try to do more of fine motor skills activities with your child at home, it will help them develop their writing skills.
  • If your child is reflecting about his/her learning at home then please inform the respective HRT (home room teacher) through mail or communication diary. Please keep a track of your child’s progress/learning.
