Day 1

Highlights of the day :

MATHS – Learners were shown few videos related to fractions, on Khan Academy so as to strengthen their conceptual understanding about fractions. They also practiced the concept of Equivalent fraction by answering questions on Khan Academy.

LANGUAGE – Popcorn reading for Chapter 10 of Charlotte’s Web was done in the class. Later learners wrote a tweet for the same chapter.

Homework :

LANGUAGE -  (A) Flip classroom: The learners have to listen to the given link on chapter 11 of the ‘Charlotte’s Web’ and be prepared for the discussion that will be conducted tomorrow.

(B) Write a tweet for Chapter 11 of Charlotte’s Web in the given chit.

Learners visited the Business Fair today and had a good time.

Settling task - Students wrote new words: imagination, perspective, curious, nibble, marvellous, adventures, appreciation, enchanted, strange, impatient.

UOI - Learners were introduced to the imagination workstations. They were given prompts for each workstation. The workstations and the prompts are as follows:

(1) Rangometry: Learners placed the rangometry objects on the scrap book and drew the outline of it. Thus, turning it to an imaginary object.
Prompts: (i) What instigated you to create this object? (II) Mention the number of shapes used by you.
(2) Thumbprints: Learners created three themes using three thumbprints of their own.
 Prompts: (I) Name the themes

 

Language - Students were introduced to the poem – Conversation on pg. 20 in Empowering English. The poem was about the names of the sounds made by the animals and birds. Students enjoyed reciting it. They also discussed more sounds. They were curious to know the sound of the animal ‘Hyena’ and hence a video and a sound clip was played to show the same.

Learning outcome- To enhance their comprehension skills through poems.

Note- Students visited the business fair by Grade 8 students. Now they won’t be going to the fair tomorrow as there is loss of time if they are allowed all the days. They can visit the fair now on Friday. You can send Rs. 100/- with students and not more than that.

Settling task: 

Learners revised the TDT’s and skills.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Learners reflected on the following questions in their U.O.I. notebook after watching the Ice age movie.

  1. Which of the three main characters do you most identify with? Why?
  2. Why are the animals moving to another place?
  3. How can you write “moving from one place to another” in one word?
  4. How does it feels when someone leaves and goes to some other place?

[Language]

1)Teacher modelling was done for how to use the 6- writing traits. Learners came to know the use of the same by using the story sequence(B-beginning , M-middle and E-end). They wrote the same in the following way:-

B- The pigeon laid eggs.

M-The eggs hatched.

E-The squeaker (pigeon’s baby)came out from it.

They also illustrated the above story before writing.

2) Learners did author’s study of the author- “Eric Carle” as a part of Literary event coming up next week.

3) Language Development:- Learners revised the concepts of grammar through the exercise given in the Language with ease reference book.

Highlights of the day- 24th Sept’14- DAY 1

Settling task- New words- imagination, perspective, curious, nibble, marvellous, adventures, appreciation, enchanted, strange, impatient

UOI- Students completed the imagination workstations that were introduced yesterday.

Learning outcome- To stimulate imagination.

Language– Students were introduced to the poem – Conversation on pg. 20 in Empowering English. The poem was about the names of the sounds made by the animals and birds. Thus, the learners were introduced to the figure of speech “Onomatopoeia”. Students enjoyed reciting it. They also discussed more sounds. They were curious to know the sound of the animal ‘Hyena’ and hence a video and a sound clip was played to show the same.

Learning outcome- To enhance their comprehension skills through poems.

Note- Students visited the business fair by Grade 8 students. Now they won’t be going to the fair tomorrow as there is loss of time if they are allowed all the days. They can visit the fair now on Friday. You can send Rs. 100/- with students and not more than that.
