UOI: 1) Take up this Well being self-assessment and write the response in your UOI notebook.

Navratri celebration

Navratri celebration

Dear parent

Kindly note that Grade 1 will be having Navratri celebrations on Tuesday, 7th October 2014. Please send your children in traditional clothes. Kindly send their school uniform in the bag, as they will be changing their clothes once the celebration is over.

Highlights

Language:

Dictation was taken today in the class.

Learners wrote the biography of the person/celebrity, on whom they had researched at home, in their Language writing book.

Learners have started preparing for the given chapters in their groups.

Maths:

Learners were shown a video and were explained comparing fractions in the class. They later solved a worksheet regarding the same.

Homework

Maths: Complete the worksheet given in class.

Settling Task:

Learners made as many words from the word “Hippopotamus” in their settling task notebook.

[Language]

Learners discussed IB social skills and research skills.

Empowering English:Learners made a story ladder sequencing  the main events from  the story ‘The monkey and the crocodile’ and wrote the part which they felt is not real in their E.E.notebook.

Language Development: Learners revised the different concepts of grammar through the exercise given in the Language with ease reference book.

We are going to celebrate Navratri festival in assembly tomorrow. Kindly send your child in traditional clothes (chaniya choli for girls, if not then a traditional dress and for boys Kediyu or kurta pajama), also send their uniforms with them.

Day 1

Highlights of the day :

MATHS – Students watched few videos and practiced comparing fractions by attempting the quiz on Khan academy on their chrome-books.

LANGUAGE – Students wrote a paragraph (100-150 words) on their own in their Lang writing notebooks, referring the mind map they did as weekend homework. They were informed that the best 3/4 pieces will be shared with the whole class, which motivated them to write the paragraph to their best.

Dictation was taken in the class today. Later, students practiced for the role play of Charlotte’s Web, in their groups.

Settling Task –  Learners wrote new words of the week, “incredible, thought, comprehension, charming, opinion, allowed, fantasy, tarried, mysteriously, elegant”

UOI –Learners attended imagination workstations.

Workstation – 1

Students used the what if prompts and wrote their imagination in their scrap books. They had to select any 5 of the following prompts. The prompts were :
1) What if you are in a bathtub and suddenly water turned into noodles?
2) What if you are in a library and the characters of your books come out?
3) What if your pets start talking to you?
4) What if the sun does not rise?
5) What if you could walk up walls and across ceilings?
6) What would happen if it really did rain cats and dogs?
7) What if you had the chance to reset your life completely?
8) What if you could cast a spell on someone you dislike? What spell would it be? 9) What if everyone lived under water?
Workstation 2:
(1) Learners observed the picture of the haunted house on the basis of the following prompt and answered the questions:

Imagine that you are having picnic near the haunted house. Suddenly the entire scenario changes and it becomes dark.

How will you react? How will you feel?

(2) Two skeletons are coming out as their party is over, and they are clicking the pictures. You are hiding behind the bushes and watching them.

What will you do?

Workstation 3:

(1) Think what the question will be, if the answer is 12.

(2) Pick out the odd ones from the following items. Explain why the item is the odd one out.

Learning Outcome: To enhance imagination.

Math -  Learners were given a worksheet to assess their prior knowledge ,they solved it and reflected on their prior learning. Concept of the terms regrouping and grouping  vocabulary terms  used for multiplication  ( multiplicand ,multiplier ,& product ) were revised. Teacher  explained the math cycle ( constructing meaning,transferring meaning ,applying with understanding.)

 

Homework:
Get the six color hats(white,blue,red,green,black and yellow).If at all you have.

Learn the tables (2 – 10)

write the poem as explained in the class.  (using your imagination)question mentioned on pg 50 of Empowering English.

Settling Task:-

1) Learners had to write one property of “Cube”.

2) Learners had to write on the topic- “If I get a chance to go in space”.

3) Learners had to make and write words from the given word “Hippopotamus”.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

1) Learners did a whole class activity of making a mind map on the topic- “Reasons for migration”. They came up with the different reasons for migration and did a discussion on the same.

2) Learners were read 1 case study of student who immigrated from one place to another. Through this they were introduced the new term “immigration”. They also revised the term “migrant” during this session.

[Language]

1) Learners did Narrative writing in their language writing notebook. Learners wrote a story in proper sequence (beginning, middle and end). They also illustrated their story.

2) Teacher modelling session- Learners were introduced Narrative writing having two points in middle part of the story (B, M1, M2 and E). They wrote and made illustrations in the given A4 size sheet.

3) Language development- Learners revised the different concepts of grammar through the exercise given in the Language with ease reference book.

4) Learners did a worksheet for revising the concepts covered so far in Term 1.

[Math]

1) Learners solved a worksheet having the word problems related to a birthday party. This even catered their comprehension skills.

2) Learners enjoyed making 3 D shapes with clay and toothpicks. They modeled different 3 D shapes using these resources.

3) Learners revised the concept of Odd numbers, even numbers, ascending order and descending order through the graphic organizer (Carroll diagram). They did the same in their math notebook.

[Homework]

29/9/2014- Learners were given math worksheet.

30/9/2014- Learners had to do the given story elements worksheet through a graphic organizer for the story “The Monkey and the Crocodile”.

6/10/2014- Learners have to make 3D shapes from the given worksheets. (Demo for one of the shapes was shown in the class)
