Grade7 – Language Highlights – Insight_Vision

Grade7 – Language Highlights – Insight_Vision

Students discussed the first 2 chapters from the reader ‘Bridge to Terabethia’ and analyzed the character with their feelings, actions, behavior, and dialogues. They also discussed the relationship of the character with each other and how does it unravel the themes of the book. An analysis based question on relationship was taken up in class to teach the students on how to attempt analytic question. Students were taught on how to understand the question focusing on the key words. Then the question was discussed in the class where everyone came up with their understanding and finally organised the answer descriptively, yet comprehensively.

Students also did a unit in the workbook and their homework was discussed too.

3D shapes are all around us…!

3D shapes are all around us…!

Our learners have learnt the 5 basic 3D shapes i.e. Sphere, Cone, Cube, Cuboid & Cylinder. After understanding all these shapes , learners played ‘Treasure hunt’ game wherein all the objects of the 5 shapes were hidden in the corridor. Learners were divided in 5 group , each was assigned one shape. They had to go and find out all the objects of their shape.

Learners were enjoyed this game and each team member contributed in searching objects of their group. They applied their understanding of 3D shapes  with real life objects and demonstrated good self management skills.

This same game was played with the parents during the 2nd PCM.

Recap of 28/11/2014

Recap of 28/11/2014

Settling Task: Learners wrote/illustrated their understanding about kindness.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Learners played “orbit game” where, initially, they(some of the student who became planets) were asked to stand in a circle and rotate and revolve around the sun. They reflected that  we were colliding with each other. There was less space for us to move freely. Moreover all the planets are of different size and have different rotation and revolution, etc.

Then, they were given ropes of different size and were again asked to rotate and revolve. They were able to make out the difference between both the engagements. They came to a conclusion that the planets does not revolve and rotate in one circle. Also, they were introduced the term – orbit being the path on which the planets revolve and rotate. And, they came up with the first line of inquiry – Earth’s position in space.

[Language]

1) Learners revised the concept of contraction by doing the worksheet given.

2)They were introduced new spellings of the week- “space, rotate, revolve, solar, asked, before, through, another, large and should”. They wrote these words 3 times in their writing notebook.

Language Development: Learners revised the grammar concepts from the reference book.

[Math]

Calendar worksheet (H.W) was discussed.

[Homework]

Learners need to complete the narrative writing worksheet given. They need to make a story on their own from the pictures and write the beginning, middle 1, middle 2 and ending of the story based on the pictures.

They also need to read the class library book given and write the learner profile, attitude and 7 Habit focused in the story.

Note: On Monday, dictation will be taken.

Knowledgeable Dazzlers at work !!

Knowledgeable Dazzlers at work !!

In the Language literacy centres, learners get an opportunity to reinforce few word families through various hands-on activities. Last week , Dazzlers worked on the following centres:

Centre 1: Association of pictures to words .

Learners had to read the word and associate (match) it to the correct corresponding pictures.

Centre 2: Train of word families.

Learners had to read the flashcards with different words and put the flash card in the right compartment.

Centre 3: Word-lollies

Learners had to read the lollipops and sort them as per the word family.

Centre 4- Word towers

Learners make towers with legos, of a given word family.

Waiting Zone: Colouring booklet.

Through these centres, last week learners reinforced ake, ale and ank families.

Glimpses of the same:

Nursery-Jr.Kg Night out on 6 December, 2014

Nursery-Jr.Kg Night out on 6 December, 2014

Dear Parents,

Night out for  Nursery nd Jr.Kg is scheduled on 6 December, 2014. Please refer to the details given below:

Objective:

Night-out  is the time for sharing and the children learn differently from how they do within the four walls of the classroom. It is also a way to experience school after the working hours and see how the campus looks on a dark night. It teaches the child to be independent and brings him out of the comfort zone and therefore it is our conscious choice to make them sleep in the open to be with the nature and face the elements of nature.

Night out is about getting close to nature as much as it is about having fun and partying. So together they form a powerful learning experience for the students of which certain discomforts are a part of.

So, we also urge the parents to prepare their children that they will be experiencing something different from what they get at their home for e.g. the warm bed in an AC room, bedtime story, TV etc. In addition to all the fun elements involved, they should also focus on the learning part in the night-out.

Therefore, we would also like to mention few concerns that may come up during the night out.

Concerns:

1.Winters – It will be very cold, and especially in the school area (where temperatures are 2-4 degree C lesser than the city) and sleeping outdoors (in  assembly) for children is difficult.

  1. Mosquitoes –.We take all possible steps to reduce the number of mosquitoes such as fogging, preventing water stagnation and providing repellent creams. However, due to our location in the midst lush green farms with stagnated water (as the crops are paddy & sugarcane) on all sides, we cannot eliminate the mosquito menace completely

3.Insects – At night in most months of the year there are lots of insects that are attracted towards artificial lighting at night. Our toilets are open at the top to allow for light and ventilation. Toilet lights have to remain switched from the evening on wards till at night (so that students & adults can find it easily). This will mean that insects will get attracted to the lights inside the toilet and many of them will fall dead in the floor as well.

As mentioned, night out is as much about being close to nature. Therefore it is necessary that children sleep outdoors. Parents need to ensure that children are properly equipped with clothes and covers to handle the cold (and it is much more colder for the child compared to his/her regular bed). You must make sure the children are really well dressed and carry a good repellent cream as  we want them to experience sleeping in the outdoors!

Schedule:

List of items students need to bring:

  1. Toothpaste and toothbrush
  2. One pair of clothes, one nightwear & footwear
  3. Warm blanket and bed sheet (Mattress and pillow will be provided from the school)
  4. Comb, napkin
  5. Sweater/ Jacket/ Inner-wear (thermal, warm clothes/ socks )
  6. Mosquito repellent.

Please note that students are not allowed to bring any junk/packed food to school for the night out.

All the items should be labeled properly to avoid confusion of each child’s belongings. Please do not send any expensive toys or other items with the children. The school will not be responsible for any kind of loss.

We encourage every student to be present for the night out, it’s an event that children really enjoy and savour. There will be sufficient number of teachers and didi’s to ensure that the students are safe and secure in the school apart from extra security arrangements for the event.

Settling Time: Learners had to find the meaning of the word “solar” from the dictionary and write the meaning of the same.

[Language]

Learners revised the concept of Tenses – past, present and future through a video shown to them along with the oral discussions.

Oral skills development: Learners were asked to demonstrate how do they introduce to others when they happen to meet someone. They came up with many suggestions. Later on, they were given few instances and the lines/expressions that can be used for introduction. Few examples are given below:

  • Malay, please meet Mahi.
  • Nirbhay, have you met Kartik?
  • I’d like you to meet Dhyana.
  • I’d like to introduce you to Nishka.
  • Rachit, this is Nandan.
