Grade 5 Conglomerate- Highlights of the day_30th June

Language:

Learners understood how to derive a conclusion using the graphs and prepare short notes. They learnt to take notes (Note taking) using the data collected through survey.

Math:

Revision of Fractions involving multiplication and division was done through class discussion.

UOI- Who we are:

Read aloud:

Learners were tuned into the unit through a read loud of “Sleepy Sophie” from 7 Habits of Happy Kids book by Sean Covey. They came up with the words like heart, body, mind and soul. Further they could categorize each word into this four aspects of well being.

Hot Potato:

Learners were given few questions for eg. List any 5 activities which make you happy
, What is your idea of relaxation? How does it help you? etc. These questions helped learners to identify the TDT of the unit.

Gallery Walk:

Learners observed different objects brought by entire grade 5 students. They could reflect their understanding through “I see, I think, I wonder” chart.

Settling task – Write synonyms of happy and caring

UOI – Hot potato activity – Students prior knowledge was checked as they answered the 10 questions on different tables based on the factors affecting well-being. For eg- 1) List any 5 activities which make you happy 2)What is your idea of relaxation? How does it help you? 3)Do you like festivals/celebrations? Why do you think they are necessary? etc.

Students had a gallery walk today where all the things were displayed which the students of Grade 5 had brought. These things represented their definition of well-being. They also looked at the posters stuck in the corridor which are related to the unit. They filled the reflection sheet of – I see, I think and I wonder for the gallery walk activity.

Learning outcome – To tune in to the unit.

Math – Students solved multiplication and division sums related to proper and mixed fractions.

Learning outcome – To revise the concept of fraction.

Language – Students discussed the advantages and disadvantages on the topic – kids and pocket money. They also saw the questions in the Empowering English – pg 83 on the same topic of whether children should get pocket money or not.

Homework – UOI- Complete writing the I wall questions (you have written in uoi n.b) based on the Gallery walk and also if you can make any connection with the Read Aloud ‘sleepy Sophie,’ or Hot potato activity.

Language - Conduct the survey based on the questionnaire given on pg. 83.  Decide your target audience and survey 10 people. Organise the data in a tally chart and create graphs to represent your data. (You can select 3 most relevant questions from the questionnaire and create graphs only for them)

Math:
Teacher discussed the homework and learners did a self- correction which will help them to understand the mistakes made by them.

Learners continued with the Indian number system. They were introduced to the place value “Lakh”. They also discussed and taught where to put comma (,) and read any number in the Indian number system.

Example:  1,00, 000                9,87,345           5,21, 341

They also wrote the number name with Lakh.

Example: 1,00,000 – One lakh

1,00,001 – One lakh and one and so on…..

UOI –  Learners were tuned into the new unit they were taken to a messy class and left there to think what they can do they realised their responsibility and understood that they need to clean the class organize and keep resources properly. It was followed by a discussion and they came up with lot of words like teamwork,synergize,responsibility,working together with respect as well as Organization.

Learners were asked to write the reflection of the previous day learning engagement i.e arranging the messy class. They brainstormed in detail  like What was the purpose of the learning engagement, What difficulties were faced? etc.  This was done as a part of the tuning in.

Language- Learners continued with connecting words and phrases. They discussed the story of the Sleeping beauty  which was done as homework.The story was alsoread aloud in the class to clear their doubts .

Language Development: Learners revised “collective nouns” through Language with Ease reference book.

Example: A bouquet of flowers, A bunch of grapes, A school of fish, A set of books, A flock of sheep, A flight of stairs, A fleet of ships, A pride of lions, A galaxy of stars, A hand of banana, A murder of crows, A heap of garbage, A flood of work, A brood of cattle, A pack of dogs.

Learners also revised grammar concepts like Proper noun, common noun, collective noun, article, verbs, tense (Present, past, future) adjective, pronoun, preposition and conjunction through Language with Ease reference book.

Write the spellings five times in your homework notebook-

forty, fifty, eighty, thousand, lakh and ninety.

Write the number names for the following-

c) 11,622

d) 98,136

Goal: Discuss with your parents and write the goals in any rough paper and bring it tomorrow.
 Note : Parents are requested to make three goals with their children one for behavior,one for math and one for language. Hope you will co-operate and discuss the same with your child.

Dear parents,

Hope you all enjoyed the introduction activity conducted during the PTM. The same activity was done with the students and were asked to introduce themselves (My name is …..) with an action.They thoroughly enjoyed it and this also helped them enhance their language skills as they were encouraged to speak in English.

Highlights:

Math: Students were given numbers to find out the divisibility test for it to check their understanding.

Language: The read aloud from Empowering English of a chapter ‘My Story” was done to understand the difference between an auto biography and biography. Followed by that a chapter 1 on descriptive writing was done.

UOI: The teacher took up the discussion  on the TDT, Concept (causation) and unpacked the central idea with the learners input.

Homework:

Math: Revise the concept of divisibility rule using the following link.

Language: Learners have to complete the descriptive grid of any family member in their Empowering English book on page 2.

DAY-4

UOI: Learners were tuned into the new unit. They were asked to arrange their own birthday party and list down all the things they would need for their party.

Math:Learners continued with the Indian number system. They were introduced to the place value “Lakh”. They also discussed and taught where to put comma (,) and read any number in the Indian number system.

DAY-5

UOI: Learners were asked to write the reflection of the previous day learning engagement i.e arranging the birthday party. They brainstormed in detailed like What was the purpose of the learning engagement, What difficulties were faced? etc.  This was done as a part of the tuning.

Language- Learners continued with connecting words and phrases. They discussed the story of the Cindrella which was done as homework, they rewrote the same story using connecting words and phrases.

 

 

Math-Learners continued with the Indian number system. They were given  few numbers randomly and were asked to write the number names, succeeding, preceding number of the same.

Example: 67,897

Number Name: Sixty seven thousand eight hundred and ninety seven

Succeeding Number: 67, 898

Preceding Number: 67,896
