Learning engagement: Expert groups

Learning engagement: Expert groups

Math:

Students were divided into 6 groups and each group was assigned a quadrilateral. They were asked to prepare for their given shape so as to teach other groups. For this, they were given certain criteria to fulfill. They were supposed to design a poster for their shape, reinforce the properties using any media and prepare a quiz to check  on the understanding of other students.

Here are some of the glimpses of the activity:

Connection hunt!!!

Connection hunt!!!

Hello Parents,

TDT: Where we are in place and time

Central Idea:Learning about previous generations helps people understand the relationship between the past and the present.

As we are moving forward in our unit, learners are given opportunities to gain clear understanding of different concept through various activities. During one such activity, they understood the meaning of the word “Connection”.

They were given paper glass phones to play in a pair. While they were enjoying telephone-telephone, they were provoked with questions like: what were they doing, how were they able to hear each other through the toy, how did the voice reach to the other person and so on. Through this discussion they came up to the understanding that the glasses were “connected” to each other with a string. This made them understand word connection.

Later they gave many examples where they found connections like: mother and child, pencil and eraser, paper and pen, tv and remote, electricity and light/fan, white board and marker pen etc.

Regards,

Parvin

Drop Everything and Read……

Drop Everything and Read……

WOW……..!!!!!!!!

It was the first word that came to my mind after we had a very interesting & exciting session of DEAR TIME yesterday with the learners. The kids were so enthusiastic about it that they were pouring in with so many questions like ‘Ma’am what are going to read? Where are we going to read this? & on & on & on………….Finally, we decided that we would assemble in the bridge area and do the read aloud of the book ‘Wilfred Gordon McDonald Patridge’ by Mem Fox.
A wonderful story for the wonderful kids. After completing the story, we played a memory game where children enacted any 1 word of the story and as their turn arrived they would start acting from the 1st word till their turn.
Here are a few glimpses of the wonderful moments:

[Highlight Of The Day]

DEAR Time – Drop Everything And Read – Students were divided in 2 groups from the class and were allotted a teacher who conducted the read aloud or any other activities in relation to reading with this group, for the year.

Language

Learners demonstrated their listening skills by listening to a song ‘Grateful’ on their chromebook along with answering the comprehension questions in the poetry booklet.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Students played ‘Snail game’ which is a board game. It was a game on well-being. The students were enthusiastically involved in it. Under the cards – responsible, safe, nurtured, active, respected, included, healthy, achieving; there were sub cards which had some statements written and they had to move forward or backward accordingly in the game. For eg.- Your family introduced themselves to new people in the neighbourhood – go forward 3 spaces OR you were sick because you ate too many sweets – go back 1 space.

Like these, there were many cards which students could connect to the factors of well being ( social, physical, mental and spiritual).

Later students also saw a video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbAUzcuvVYc

Here are a few glimpses of the same:

G8 ICT HIghlights of Last Week

Dear Parents,

In ICT, we have started with Scratch Programming (www.scratch.mit.edu) where learners do programming with blocks to create animation. They had to create their first project as well as they need to maintain a Scratch Design Journal presentation to reflect about their learning and experience with scratch. This is the introduction video which gives a glimpse about the kind of projects that can be created using scratch.
