a. This question was discussed- How would you feel if you were in place of Jonas in the ceremony of twelves and would have received the job of Ã¢â‚¬Å“Ã¢â‚¬ÂreceiverÃ¢â‚¬ÂÃ¢â‚¬Â? Ã‚Â It helped learners to understand the text and empathise with the character.
b. Discussion of Ã‚Â the H.W.was also taken up- Brainstorm distinctive memories from growing up. Make sure memories are in complete sentences but in list form. Next to each memory, each student should categorize the description based on the remembered emotion. Ã¢â‚¬Å“Ã¢â‚¬ÂtraumaticÃ¢â‚¬ÂÃ¢â‚¬Â, Ã¢â‚¬Å“Ã¢â‚¬ÂexcitingÃ¢â‚¬ÂÃ¢â‚¬Â,..(words good and bad not allowed) Include at least one negative and one positive event.
Following this the class was lead into a discussion of whether or not they would choose to forget some of their memories Ã¢â‚¬â€ maybe in order to forgo the painful remembrance of an event. This discussion helped them understand the question- Ã¢â‚¬Å“The giver says that without memories knowledge is meaningless, what does he mean?Ã¢â‚¬Â
Learners learnt how to describe a character using imagery and sensory details. They understood how extra details are used to describe a character vividly. They started writing the character description of their HRT, in class.
Learners, in their groups presented and explained the quadrilateral assigned to them, to the rest of the class. It was an interactive session and helped learners clear their doubts.
