Learning Engagement: The teacher introduced the math strand, Ã¢â‚¬Å“Data handlingÃ¢â‚¬Â. The learners learnt how they are supposed to collect the data, and represent it in a pictorial form(Pictograph). The teacher modelled it first for a clear understanding of how the data is to be collected, represented and how it can be interpreted.The learners collected the data catering to the different abilities as discussed in the class.

Learning Outcome: To help students collect, represent and interpret data.

Show & Tell gives anÃ‚Â opportunity to learners to enhance their presentation skills as well as build onÃ‚Â theirÃ‚Â confidence. In the current Unit of Inquiry, learners presented their artefacts and family tree. They were enthusiastically sharing detailsÃ‚Â about their artefacts.Ã‚Â Some of them shared their family history, while some of them couldnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t as the same was not shared by the parents!Ã‚Â I requestÃ‚Â theÃ‚Â parents to get involved in their childÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s learning engagements through home assignments which in turn would yield improved outcomes.

Day 4 – Wednesday

Math

Learners solved addition and subtraction word problems in the class. One was done by the teacher in the class and one problem learners did independently.

Language

Learners learned new words( Innovate, Ideate, Illuminate, Initiate, support, know, reflect, need, create, problem) in the class today. They also learned how to pronounce all the new words. The class did week 1 day 5 in their language with ease.

Homework

Make your own word problem and solve it in your Math homework notebook. One for addition and one for subtraction. Total 2 word problems. Also make corrections of the previous work if any.

( P.S.- My friend the MoonÃ‚Â  byÃ‚Â  Andr’e Dahan is missing from the class library. Kindly check and send it tomorrow.

– Please send a dictionary with the student with a proper label. It will be kept in the class for everyday use.)

Learning Engagement: The teacher revised the strand Data handling & the concept of Ã¢â‚¬Å“Venn diagramÃ¢â‚¬Â. The students were given an A3 sheet wherein they had to reflect in a pair on their understanding of similarities & differences, about their physical characteristics, emotional characteristics as well as abilities and interests.

Learning Outcome: To help students collect and represent data

Language :

Learning Engagement: The teacher took a moment from the book Ã¢â‚¬Å“A chair for my motherÃ¢â‚¬Â and explained how a small moment is stretched and then gave them a situation for which they were asked to make a movie in their mind, and few more such small moments were asked to be visualized.

Learning Outcome: To help students make connections to their own experience when listening to or reading texts.

The giver:Ã‚Â Read aloud of chapter 11 from Giver was done by the teacher with a brief explanation of the text. A discussion on this question was also taken up- Ã¢â‚¬Å“Do you think its fair that one person in the community- the receiver- should have to be burdened and pained by the memories so that no one else is? ExplainÃ¢â‚¬Â.Ã‚Â  Teacher also modeled writing answer to this question.

WWS:Ã‚Â Learners shared their written piece on the topic – “Describe your HRT” and their classmates gave effective feedback for the same.

Math

H.W Discussion followed by formative assessment on quadrilaterals and its property was taken. The FA was discussed and students were asked to self check their work.

In response to my earlier post i have received more than a 60 names for chess selection. It is not possible for us to finish 60 students selection in 1.5 hours, so we have decided to postpone the final selection to 17th August 2015, till than we will shortlist the names during Ã‚Â PS classes.

Please send Chess kit along with the student from tomorrow, we will do the pre selection in PS classes only.

The categories for Competition are:

Under 14 – Boys & Girls Separately (Maximum 3 from 1 School) (till grade 8 students)
