Dear Parents,

Students enthusiastically attempted the first unit test on 20th July, 2015.

This week, we continued with the literary analysis of the short story “The Landlady- Roald Dahl”. Students identified the  literary devices in this story which helped them understand and analyse the writer’s work. Students identified the new vocabulary words and their meanings which they can use in their writing and speech.

To check for their understanding of the story, students attempted few questions from this story in the class itself. The worksheet on questions and activities based on this story using Bloom’s Taxonomy is shared with the students.

We also started with Unit – 12 from  the checkpoint workbook. Students attempted few activities on comparative and superlative adjectives, punctuation of dialogue and use of apostrophes.

During the book club slot, few students gave presentation on the book read. We encouraged the students to read the books and  make the presentations on time, so as to achieve the target for the books read for the book-club activity

Homework -:
The worksheet on questions and activities based on Bloom’s Taxonomy is shared with you all.  Attempt any one question from the Remembering, Understanding and Applying level. Homework should be submitted by 30th July, 2015.
Reminder -: Coursework submission on descriptive writing due on 28th July, 2015

Dear Parents,

In this week (from 20th July to 24th July), we started with:

1) Cross-checking of answers of last week Booklet Worksheet H.W. And H.W given for ‘Fraction of a Value’ was cross-checked and doubts were made clear to students.

2) Then new topic  ‘Adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers’ was introduced taking real life example (Pizza). And students did few sums in the class and rest were given in H.W. which will be cross-checked in the next week.

3)  Then new topics ‘Multiplying and dividing an integer by a fraction’ and ‘Multiplication and Division of fractions’ were introduced. And few sums were given to students to solve in the class and answers were cross-checked and doubts were made clear to them. Exercise for the same has been given in H.W which will be cross-checked in the next week.

Grade 8 – Language Highlights of the Week

Grade 8 – Language Highlights of the Week

Dear Parents,

Students enthusiastically attempted the first unit test on 20th July, 2015.

This week, we continued with the literary analysis of the short story “The gift of Magi – O’Henry”. Students learnt the use of a new figure of speech – allusion and other literary devices in this story which helped them understand and  analyze the writer’s work. Students identified the new vocabulary words and their meanings which they can use in their writing work.

To check their understanding of the story, students attempted  few questions from this story in the class itself. Questions and Answers for ‘The Gift of the Magi’ will be continued in the next cycle as well.

We also began with Unit-8 in the Workbook. This skill-building write-in workbook for Grade 8, supported students in learning and providing extra language tasks and reading and writing skills development, including sequencing exercises.

During the book club slot, few students gave presentation on the book read. We encourage the students to read the books and timely make the presentations so as to achieve the target for the books read for the book-club activity.

Home Work Details for the week:

An American Writer O’Henry wrote the following short stories :

The Last Leaf, The Green Door, After Twenty Years, The Ransom Of Red Chief and Hearts and Hands. After reading “The Gift of the Magi” and any one of the above mentioned stories written by O’Henry , compare & contrast between the two books. You might consider the role of the following in his stories: coincidences and surprises, the background of his characters, romance, humor, the structure of his plots, and his ability to capture the mood of a particular time and place.
