Dear Parents,

Sharing with you highlights of the week:
Literature
Students read the poem Prayer by Imtiaz Dharker. Students came up with their interpretation of the poem according to their understanding. We discussed  the literary devices used by the poetess. Students will learn new figures of speech like Oxymoron, Metonymy and Synecdoche.

Language
We conduct 5 to 10 mins grammar practice sessions in the class everyday to brush up their grammar skills.
Book Club

Few classes were taken to Senior Library for Book Club. While some classes gave book club presentations.

Grade-8 Language Highlights & Homework for the Week

Dear Parents,

Literature: This week, students started with R. L. Stevenson’s novel, ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ which is a prominent example of Victorian fiction. They learnt about the author R.L.Stevenson; his works and his contribution to Literature. Students learnt new words and phrases and practiced Comprehension.

Language: The rules of clauses and phrases were taught to the students this week.
Students were given practice sentences to understand phrases and clauses, specially relative clause. Focus was given on the relative clauses as it will be a part in Checkpoint papers.

Book Club: During the book club slot, students prepared their own book club presentations. They presented their book club presentation efficiently.

Homework: Language homework comprises of an exercise based on ‘Semicolons and voice’, posted on the Google classroom. Students are requested to acknowledge the same, and complete it.

Math : Learners were introduced how to write a conclusion on a data collected. One of the answer was modeled by the teacher in the class and learners continued to write for rest on their own. Through this, they came to know about how to derive a conclusion on a survey.

UOI : Students began to learn-“How to resolve conflicts”. Today’s UOI session was partially led by school counselor. It was a very insightful session and students learned about conflict resolution strategies and styles of conflict management by watching role plays and brain storming on real life situations related to conflicts.
WWS– Practice in Descriptive, narrative and dialogue writing was done when we improvised the part 1 and part 2 of the story “Goldilocks.”

Dear Parents & Students,

We are organising a field trip to Dharavi on 12th September, 2015. It will be a day trip. We will leave at 5:30am in the morning and return by 10:00pm (detailed itinerary will be sent later)

There will be integration of BM, Bio, Eco & ESS and it is compulsory for all grade 12 students to attend. If there is a genuine reason for a child not attending the field trip please communicate to us (Ayman & Shezin) through the daily diary latest by 1st September, 2015 EOD otherwise it will be considered that the child is coming for the trip and the amount will be deducted from the imprest accordingly.

The cost of the field trip will be approx. Rs 2,500 (the amount is inclusive of travelling, food expenses & tour charges) and the amount will be deducted from imprest as per the actuals.
