Dear Parents,

This week students completed the activities (Idioms and Role Play) from the chapter “The Burden of Guilt” from Empowering English .

For the ongoing unit – Styles of Writing, students were introduced to the Narrative writing. To introduce this form of writing, we conducted an activity “Spin a Yarn” that enabled students to weave a story based on the given story starter. Students enjoyed this activity as they were able to connect ideas and express them as a narrative. The presentation on how to write an effective narrative piece was also taken up in the class and this document is shared in the google classroom for reference. A story starter prompt was also given after this activity and students were asked to complete this story keeping in mind all the essentials for writing an interesting and vivid narrative.

In the Listening Slot, students listened to the audio as a whole-class instruction and attempted the activity shared on the google classroom.

Book Club -: Students presented the books they read in Book Circles, where they answered the questions from their classmates and teachers.

Dear Parents,

Here are the highlights of the Language and Literature classes :

Literature -:
This week,  we introduced a short story – ‘The Gift of the Magi’ by O.Henry. The tuning in activity included the discussion on giving gifts to our friends, parents or any near and dear ones. Students shared their ideas on what type of gifts they give and how they can manage to buy with the limited money. They also shared their ideas regarding their prized possessions and whether they will be ready to give those possessions as gifts. The story was read and detailed discussion was held with a view to understanding the story.
Language -: Students wrote their first draft of their Persuasive Writing and they were given feedback. Now, they will work on their second draft of the same. They need to consider the rubric shared with them and prepare their draft.
Book Club -: Students continued with reading their selected books in the Book Club slot.
A Unit Test was also conducted this week.
