Dear Parents,

This week we discussed about factors of production, different sectors of economy and how sectoral changes impact the country’s growth. Then the difference between Entrepreneur and Intrapreneur  was explained with various examples.

Grade 12 learners in ESS began the week with an open book test on the previous topic pertaining to “Biodiversity and Conservation.” They were required to refer to the text book while answering the questions given in the practice section at the end of the said unit.

Following this, we began with the unit “Water, food production systems and society”. The unit began with the recap of the water cycle but with emphasis on technical terms that ESS students are expected to use while presenting their answers. We began discussing the water budget on the globe and thereby deduced the importance of water as a resource. The learners also attempted to draw the water cycle in form of a system diagram where in all flows and storage of the water were clearly indicated using proportionate boxes and arrows.

Grade 11 students of ESS had a few orientation sessions for the subject. The learners were given a brief introduction of the subject, the approaches included in the subject and basics of the assessment components. They also received their new textbook for the subject which will be used over next two years.

Learners were given one term/word each and were asked to share with rest of the class whatever prior knowledge they had about the word that they received. This was added on by the points from the rest of the class and hence we were able to get a brief idea of the concepts that an ESS student needs to be aware of for the upcoming concepts in the syllabus.

The new subject guide was shared with the students on the Google classroom for ESS and they were asked to refer to the assessment components, papers, types of questions etc. to get an idea about what they ought to prepare for. They ended the week with watching the first half of the documentary “Home.” They will be completing this in the next class.

NOTE: Please be informed that the students of Grade 11 ESS with have their first unit test on 22 July 2016. The question paper will comprise of basic knowledge pertaining to the subject and concepts discussed during the last week. The details of the paper will be shared during the ESS class on Monday, 18 July.

[Unit Of Inquiry]

Learners revised the points to be kept in mind while creating an effective survey.Having revised that, they created a survey questionnaire.
