Day 1 of Junoon Arts at School Project

Day 1 of Junoon Arts at School Project

The Junoon Arts at School Project is currently underway @ Fountainhead School. It is an intensive immersion in arts for grade 3-4-5 . The idea of this project is to develop an appreciation for the arts (theater in particular) ,the creative process and artistic journey.

Students have been given an innovatively designed passport which has various stops in their journey. Day 1 was “trip to theater”

Students were taken to Sanjeev kumar auditorium to watch the play “Kyun Kyun Ladki” based on a story by Mahasweta Devi. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions about the play and the performances after the play.

The play showcased beautifully how without props too and by just using their body, actors can adapt to any role. The actors in the play only used their bodies to depict animals like fishes, cows, goats, snakes and everyday objects like  a water pump, a hookah etc

Another learning experience for our students through this process was how to behave like a respectful audience like sit silently and  watch a live performance for 90 minutes. A huge challenging task for them , which some struggled with and some executed successfully.

All in all, a day well spent!

Grade 7_Highlights of the week_ all sections

Dear Parents,

This week we completed Persuasive writing. The children were taught how to plan and organize their ideas. Later they practiced this in the form of an essay and were given feedback.

The week ended with a formative assessment of persuasive writing. The next week will begin with a Summative Assessment on Forms of writing. The test will include all three forms of writing that were taught and the students will have to choose one.

Book Club: This week there was a read aloud session for students and they were asked many questions related to the ideas represented through the pictures and dialogues of a picture book.  It was an interesting and thought provoking discussion.

Regards,

Grade 7 Team

Highlights and Homework- 5th August

Language: We started off with a new unit by showing students a series of cover pages and asking them how their perspective about the book changes when there is a change in its cover page. They tried to predict the plot of the book ‘The Giver’. To dig deeper, we had a discussion on following questions:-

1. If you could make any change in the world, from controlling the climate to changing how people handle their emotions, what changes would you make?

2. What would the world be like if everybody were the same?

3. How would you like living in a world with no color? What colors would you miss the most?

4. How far should we go to protect people from bad things happening to them?

Students used different annotation symbols while reading the first chapter of the book ‘The Giver’ by Lois Lowry.

Math : Students were given a worksheet on Polygons to check their prior knowledge about polygons.

Homework-

  1. Giver- Create your own annotations(maximum 5) and read chapter 1 with annotations.
  2. Create Bookmake based on the prediction of the story.
  3. Mix bag homework will be sent on another blog post.
