Highlights of the week :24th to 27th October,2016

  • Circle time
  • Read alouds were done from the Sr. KG monthly read aloud list
  • Activities related to initial sounds of words were taken up (sh, th, ch) in Phonological Awareness.

Language:

  • Introduction of ‘ip’ word family (dip, lip, hip, sip, tip, rip, nip, slip, skip, flip, trip, zip, ship, clip, blip, whip, chip, snip.)
  • Revision of ‘ip’ , ‘It’ and ‘in’ family words through learning centres.
  • Introduction of sight words: could, would ,should and right by framing sentences.

Math:-

  1. Revision of the concepts (Number names, Ascending, Descending order) through centres.

UOI:-

Events

  • Transdisciplinary theme: How we organize ourselves.
  • Central idea: Planning an event requires multitude of skills.

Learners planned an event of their choice using the research tool “Super 3 ” with the guidance of the teacher. Post the execution of the event students also reviewed it.

Potluck party:

The students shared their food with their peers and enjoyed the potluck party.

A gentle reminder regarding the Diwali homework:

The students need to complete the homework and  submit it on the first day after the Diwali break.

Happy Diwali!!

A huge thanks to all the parents who volunteered for diya painting and sweet making. The sweets were really yummy. I’m sure the parents and all the children had a wonderful experience by celebrating Diwali at school, like this.  We all appreciate your efforts☺☺☺

Day 5-Highlights and homework of the day!! (27th October, 2016)

Highlights:
U.O.I:
Students played a game on Kahoot to reflect on their literacy, numeracy and logical thinking skills.

For better understanding of the importance of Teamwork and to make connections with the LOIs, the students watched half of the movie “Chak de India” in the school. The students are asked to watch the rest of the movie as a part of their HW.

Note: Parents, Kindly show the movie to the students even if they have seen it earlier, as this time the purpose behind watching the movie is different. The students needs to fill the reflection sheet which is given, after watching the movie.

Language:
The students wrote apology letter in the booklet Yertle the turtle and they also did book review of the same.

Potluck party:
The students shared their food with their peers and enjoyed the potluck party.

A gentle remainder regarding the Diwali homework:
The students need to complete the homework and need to submit it on the first day after the Diwali break.

Introduction of Rhyme:

Revision of after/before numbers, greater than/less than,more less.

Revision of d letter words.

Phonological awareness:- Oral activities:

  • Identify the rhyming words: Teacher spoke two words like play-clay, bus- ton and asked to identify whether they are rhyming words or not.
  • Activity: Teacher formed 10 pairs in the class and gave 7 jodo blocks of the same colour.Then, the teacher slowly and clearly spoke the passage about a flower and asked students to put forward a block whenever they heard the word /flower/.This activity has enhanced their listening skills.

Free play:

They enjoyed playing with the toys and mingled up with their friends.

It helped them to enhance their Social and Communication skills.

Puppet theater:

Revision of the story “Pepper (Priya) watches too much Tv” using hand puppets.

Language:

Revision of  letters ‘c’, ‘k’, ‘e’, ‘h’, ‘r’, ‘d’, ‘m’ was done through various activities.

Revision of all the tricky words done till now.

Bag rack Activity:

All the bag racks of Jr.KG classes were made messy by the teachers before the arrival of the learners. There was no space for them to keep bags. Once the learners started coming and began to follow their routines and procedures, they wondered what is wrong with the racks and voiced their opinion like “ why have you kept everything in the rack, where will we keep our bags now?. Students have also come up with multiple solutions for the same.This activity showcased their understanding of space.

Jar activity:

Firstly, teacher filled the jar with sand, water, small stones and big stones where there will be less objects were fitted in the space. Later, teacher asked for the alternate way to fill the jar and tried to fill the same by adding big stones and emphasized on is there any more space left in the jar? so then it was filled with small stones, sand and water.This way, the space has been used in an organized way to fit in more objects in the jar. This activity showcased their understanding of how we use space.

Bedsheet dance activity ( integration with dance):

Learners were asked to dance on open bedsheet till the music was on.Here, all the learners were able to fit on the bedsheet as there was enough space for all.It was repeated many times till the small fold of the bedsheet.This way, different quantity of students could stand on every fold of the bedsheet.This activity showcased their understanding of how we use space.

DIWALI CELEBRATION IN NURSERY!

Our little tiny tots celebrated last day school before Diwali vacation with a POT LUCK party and lots of activities. They painted and decorated their own diya , played games in the class. All the students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed a lot.

Please fill the IGCSE Subject Selection (Grade 9 – 2017-18) Click here – form for the subjects that you want to take up next year. Please go through the orientation presentation & video before you fill this form (especially parents and students who were absent on the day of orientation). Please fill this form by 25th Oct, 2016.

Central idea:

Family and friends play an important role in our life

  • Learners spoke about their family using the family pictures.
  • Learners illustrated the number of members living with them in their family using clay.

Language:

Word of the week: Love

  • Picture talk: Learners were shown a picture of family sitting together. They observed the picture and spoke what all they can see in the picture. This helped them in learning new vocabulary and enhancing their visual skills.
  • Story using puppets: Learners were told different stories using animal puppets. Later they were asked to make story using different animal puppets.

Phonological Awareness :

The learners were made to sit in a circle and the teacher spoke few sentences and repeated a particular word many times.  Students had to clap when they heard  that particular word. Like if the repeated word is “fish “ then students have to clap when they hear “ fish”.This activity helped them to enhance their listening skills and build their concentration.

Math

  • Revision of numbers till 10 using different manipulatives
  • Revision  of Pre math concept- tall and short, near and far .

Free Play:

Learners were given different toys like: pipe link, rubber links and slate-chalk
