Important note : Night-out : Grade 5

Dear Parents Greetings !!!!!

As you all are aware that Night out for Grade 5 is scheduled on 23rd December 2016 ( tomorrow). So we have planned for some indoor activity time, where in learners are allowed to bring  board games like ludo , chess , cards, housie, business game etc and have fun time with their peers. Learners will be responsible for taking care of their belongings.  Please make sure that learners carry enough winter care ( thermals, socks, gloves, blankets, caps, jackets etc) as the temperature is likely to drop during the night time. As the venue of the night out is in open ground, kindly send mosquito repellent with your child.

Highlights 

U.O.I- The students attended a Panel discussion wherein the panelists were Ms. Mariyam Baxamusa, Ms. Sanjana Amarnani and Ms. Pinky Chawla. The panelists shared their beliefs and values with the students. The students displayed excellent listening skills during this session and also used their communication skills to ask further questions.

Language- Dictation was taken up in the class on the sentences. Later, students were read a passage wherein they had to identify the sense words and the mood of the text.

Homework

Language: 1). Learn the dictation words- Seventh Hudred- List 3.

2). Read the passage given below and identify the sense words and the mood of the text.

 

  • The witch Glinda sat upon a throne of rubies. She was a beautiful witch. Her hair was a rich red and fell in curls and waves over her shoulders. They looked like the waves of an ocean. Her dress was pure white, but her eyes were blue and looked kindly over Dorothy. Her dainty silver sandals gleamed in the moonlight.
  • In the deepest spot of all, stands the castle of The Sea King. Its walls are built of coral, and the long Gothic windows are of the clearest amber. The roof is formed of shells that open and close as the water flows over them. Their appearance is very beautiful, for in each lies a glittering pearl which would be fit for the diadem of a queen.

The students attended a Panel discussion wherein the panelists shared their beliefs and values with the students. The students displayed excellent listening skills during this session and also used their communication skills to ask further questions. It was a fruitful session after which students reflected their understanding of the similarities and differences between different people’s beliefs and values using Venn diagram.

1. Copy the following passage in your Language E.E Notebook and colour- Similes in blue, Sight words in red, smell in yellow, hearing in green, touch in purple and taste in orange. Then, ask yourself- Are they happy (positive) or sad (negative) words?

I came downstairs still wearing my pajamas and saw a bunch of magazines on the rug by  the couch, toppled over from their usual stack on the coffee table. Then I saw the bad mess in  the kitchen. The jars with Miranda’s baking supplies are usually lined up along the counter, but  one of them was on the floor in pieces, and there was flour everywhere. The stench of the broken eggs cannot be ignored along with the strong smell of toast burning somewhere near. There was a click sound and the door opened. Dad was standing in  the middle of it, wearing a suit: shiny black shoes, pressed work pants and shirt resembling the colour of sky on a clear summer day; his hair still wet from the shower. Dad turned around and got some bread and butter, and honey. The toaster sounded like it hurt when he pushed the lever down. It was old and never made the toast right. I could still feel the pungent taste of the toast I had last night along with some smooth scrambled eggs.

2. Similes: As Fast As a Horse

We use similes to describe things by comparing them to other things. For example, if I want to say someone is fast, I can say she is as fast as a horse.Here are some examples of similes:

Today the senior school celebrated National Maths Day and we were the visitors to it.

Maths: We learned about various types of data and how to calculate central tendency for them and how to work with sample. We also started understanding the process of preparing and conducting a survey.

Language: We explored public speaking skills. They also learned about declamations. They were introduced to the art of extempore.

[Highlight Of The Day]

Literary Event – JAM

Learners were told to be in groups according to their houses and they chose three best students for representing their house for JAM literary event inter house competition. Later those three students were told to perform for JAM and two best were selected for final event. From the Collaboration, Hasti got selected. Congratulations Hasti 🙂
