## G9 – Literature – Highlights of the Week

Dear Parents,

This week we completed an Unseen component in the Literature workbook. Students read an extract by James Joyce focusing on exploration of characters. They completed answers in the workbook. We then started with a new poem – Passion by Kathleen Raine. As part of the initiation activity, students were given prints of different stanzas of the poem. They were asked to arrange them according to their understanding. The objective was to understand their thought process and what points do they consider when they read a poem. One group arranged the eight stanzas focusing on the story being told through a poem; another group focused on rhyming words.

The activity was followed by information about the author and her philosophical leanings. We have started with the analysis of the first stanza.

This week students have learnt about different terms related to a sound wave.They studied the difference between transverse and longitudinal wave.They also learnt about characteristics of sound wave- Pitch and Loudness of sound.
We performed an activity to understand reflection of sound wave produced by a tuning fork.
They learnt about Echo and Reverberation.
Numericals were also solved in the class.

Dear All

This week studentsÃ‚Â started the topic C8, acids-bases and salts. They learnt about the concept pof acids and bases on the basis of pH values and H+ and OH- ions, pH scales and reactionb of acids with bases, and metals. They also found the acidic or basic nature of some of the every-day life substances like fruit juices, table salts etc. The learning was supplemented with calssroom discussions, lectures, simulation.

This week HL studentsÃ‚Â studied about the nucleic acids, the process of forming nucleotides, DNA and RNA. Also nature of sciences (NOS) and TOK links were discussed in depth with the help of videos on discovery of the DNA. The learning was supplemented with ppts, classroom lecture and Ã‚Â videos.

Grade 11 – Math HL – Highlights

## Grade 11 – Math HL – Highlights

Dear Parents,

Post winter trips, we completed Poisson Distribution and its parameters. Lot of real life word problems were solved in class. With this we covered the entire Discrete random variable.

We now started with a new unit ‘FUNCTIONS’. Students have already learnt functions in depth in grade 10. We had a quick revision in which the following topics were covered :

(i) Relations and functions
(ii) Mapping diagram
(iii) Domain and range
(iv) Inverse functions

Students were also introduced to new topics like

(v) Self-Inverse functions
(vi) Odd and even functions – Graphical and algebraic approach

A formative assessment was taken where MCQs were given on topic relations and functions. Students are also given marks.
