Dear Parents,

Language: We discussed the remaining questions at the end of the poem -“The Bangle Seller” from Empowering English. We also wrote a small poem on an object like a statue, a chair, a toy. While showing the students the map of the world, we explored very small countries (area wise) and food products from these countries. We also talked about, how these food products end up becoming a part of the identity of these countries. Post establishing this background, we explored Jamaica’s food products which are very specific to the geography which are part of the country’s identity.

UOI: We understood about self esteem  and we discussed, how we can build our self esteem. We also talked about mood swings and the ways to handle the emotional outbursts because of mood swings.

Thanks and regards

Himani Mehta

Lang- Today, the class read a beautiful poem written by Agnes Maxwell-Hall – ‘ Jamaica Market’, from the chapter ‘Ordinary objects, extraordinary beauty’ from Empowering English book. We understood the meaning of the verses and we categorised the things mentioned in the poem.

UOI: Students saw two pictures, one of a girl and another of a boy and were asked to comment on these two. They then shared with the class that on what basis they commented on these pictures and also how their comments would make them feel about themselves. Through this activity, the concept of self esteem was introduced in the classroom through which students inferred that self esteem is basically an opinion/view point a person has for himself/herself. They acknowledged the fact that self esteem is formed by an individual’s opinion about themselves, which describes their overall sense of self worth or personal value. Self esteem can involve an assortment of beliefs about the self, such as the assessment of one’s own outlook, value system emotions and conducts.
