1. Syllabus component :
Unit 1 – Algebra
(a) Sequences and Series
(b) The Binomial Theorem
(c) Exponents and Logarithms
(d) Proof by Mathematical Induction
Unit 2 – Entire Functions and equations
Unit 4 – Vectors
(a) Basic concepts of vectors
(b) Scalar product of two vectors
(c) The angle between two vectors, perpendicular and parallel vectors
(d) Vector equation of a line in two and three dimensions.The angle between two lines.
(e) Coincident, parallel, intersecting and skew lines; distinguishing between these cases.Points of intersection.
Unit 5 – Statistics and Probability
All concepts except Normal distribution
Unit 6 – Calculus
(a) The limit concepts
(b) Continuity and convergence
(c) The first principle of differentiations
(d) Tangent and normal lines to the curves
(e) The second and higher order derivatives
(d) Simple rules of differentiation , product rule, quotient rule, chain rule for composite functions
(e) Related rates of change
(f) Implicit differentiation
(g) Identification of increasing and decreasing functions
2. Assessment component :
(i) Paper 1 (2 hours)
No calculator allowed. (100 marks)
