Students in grade 5 are learning about Well-being. Well-being is a concept, students find very easy to relate with. They were led to the understanding that well-being does not mean being free of diseases but it depends on the 4 inter-connected aspects, but maintaining this balance is very complex.
Learning about physical well-being is incomplete without food. In order to introduce the importance of having right food habits and its effect on our well-being, students watched Rujuta Diwekar’s documentary, ‘Indian Food Wisdom’. The documentary gave an insight on the importance of having the right food habits. Besides, it created awareness on the importance of our age old traditional Indian recipes.
And what better way to learn than relishing these varieties of traditional Indian food items! Hence, Grade 5 celebrated the Heritage Food day on 10th July. Students were asked to get a traditional food item symbolizing their culture. They had to explain the significance of that food item, it’s nutritional benefits and some more questions which would help others connect with the heritage food related to one’s culture. The students enjoyed savoring the goodies and an enriching reflection ensued. The celebration familiarized students with their own traditional food items and also gave a chance to peek into other’s traditional food practices. Some glimpses of the same:
