LEAP – Highlights of Cycle 8

LEAP – Highlights of Cycle 8

Students made connections with their current unit ‘Sharing the planning – Conflict’ learning with the previous unit’s (How we organize ourselves) Summative assessment, wherein they reckon and created a system (Council) in the groups as a means of smooth functioning of the class, by solving day to day issues that go unnoticed or are not addressed.

‘Council’ – A group of people coming together to consult, deliberate or make decisions.

Using the strategy ‘Consider all factors (CAF)’ students ponder upon the intricacy of the system, keeping the below-mentioned criteria in mind:

  • Main functions of the student council
  • Structure/hierarchy/ different positions
  • Rights and responsibilities of council and students
  • Teacher’s role/ Coordinating with teacher
  • Qualities/Values- principled, responsible, etc.
  • When to change the council leaders
  • What if, if any leader is violating the EA
  • When and how often council leaders should meet

After finalizing the roles and responsibilities of the council members/ representatives, students were asked to volunteer for the same.

In the current unit, students will be learning versatile ways to solve conflicts. Hence,‘Student council’ is a great platform/ opportunity for the students to develop their skills, put their learning into action and become hone in solving personal/others problems. They will learn the importance of being a good listener and empathize with others.
