Short Stories:

  • Analysing:

i.identify and explain the content, context, language, structure, technique and style of text(s) and the relationship among texts

ii.identify and explain the effects of the creator’s choices on an audience

iii.justify opinions and ideas, using examples, explanations and terminology

iv.interpret similarities and differences in features within and between genres and texts

B. Organising:

i.employ organizational structures that serve the context and intention

ii.organize opinions and ideas in a coherent and logical manner

 

C. Producing Text:

i. produce texts that demonstrate thought and imagination while exploring new perspectives and ideas
arising from personal engagement with the creative process
ii. make stylistic choices in terms of linguistic, literary and visual devices, demonstrating awareness of the impact on an audience.
iii. select relevant details and examples to support ideas.

D. Use Of Language:

i. use appropriate and varied vocabulary, sentence structures and forms of expression
ii. write and speak in an appropriate register and style
iii. use correct grammar, syntax and punctuation
iv. spell (alphabetic languages), write (character languages) and pronounce with accuracy

Poems:

Descriptive Writing:

Components: Sensory words, Use of Figurative Language (Simile, Metaphor, Personification and imagery and students should use a varied vocabulary and sentence structure to express his/her ideas.

Narrative Writing:

Components: The written piece should be in the form of a story. The story elements are -:

a) Plot

b) Setting

c) Atmosphere

d) Character

e) Theme

f) Point of View

g) Use of Figurative Language

2. Myths And Legends Short Stories:

  1. Why do mosquitoes buzz?
  2. Medusa
  3. Egyptian Cinderella
  4. An Irish Legend – St. Brigid’s Cloak
  5. Story of Jason and the Golden Fleece
  6. The story of Thor’s Hammer.
  7. The many tasks of Heracles
  8. The man eating lion
  9. The nine headed hydra
  10. The stag with golden antlers
  11. The huge wild boar
  12. The Augean stables
  13. The Stymphalian birds
  14. Indian mythology(Ganesha Story)

Also note that from Unit 2, Comprehension Analysis will be given and not the Questions and Answers from the above stories. It will include Compare and Contrast or Character Analysis Questions.

  • Analysing:

ii.identify and explain the effects of the creator’s choices on an audience
iii.justify opinions and ideas, using examples, explanations and terminology
iv.interpret similarities and differences in features within and between genres and texts

B. Organising:

ii.organize opinions and ideas in a coherent and logical manner
iii.use referencing and formatting tools to create a presentation style suitable to the context intention.

C. Producing Text:

i.produce texts that demonstrate thought, imagination and sensitivity, while exploring and new perspectives and ideas arising from personal engagement with the creative process
ii.make stylistic choices in terms of linguistic, literary and visual devices, demonstrating awareness impact on an audience
iii.select relevant details and examples to develop ideas.

D. Use of Language

i.use appropriate and varied vocabulary, sentence structures and forms of expression
ii.write and speak in an appropriate register and style
iii.use correct grammar, syntax and punctuation

Paper Style -: There will be one paper for Language and Literature in the first term examination.

 

  • Students will be assessed on the criteria mentioned above.
  • Time Duration – 2 hrs.
  • Long and Short Type Questions
  • Narrative/Descriptive written piece
  • Comprehension Analysis
