Term2 Psychology papers will be offered at SL and HL level.

Syllabus:

Unit 2: Biological approach to behaviour

  • Localization
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Neurotransmitters and behavior
  • Techniques used to study the brain in relation to behavior
  • Hormones and behavior

Unit 3:Cognitive approach to behavior

  • Concepts and principles of the cognitive approach to behavior
  • Models of memory
  • Schema theory
  • Thinking and decision making
  • Reliability of cognitive processes:reconstructive memory
  • Biases in thinking and decision-making
  • Emotion and conition
  • Cognitive processing in the digital world(HL only)

Unit 4: Sociocultural approach to behavior

  • Cultural influences on individual attitudes,identities and behavior-culture and cultural norms
  • Cultural origins of behavior and cognition -cultural dimensions
  • The individual and the group -social cognitive theory
  • The individual and the group-social identity theory and stereotyping
  • The influence of globalization on individual behavior (HL ONLY)

Unit 1 Research methodology

  • Research in psychology
  • Quantitative research: the experiment
  • Quantitative research: correlational studies
  • Qualitative research
  • Qualitative research methods
  • Ethics in Psychological research

SL Level Information:

Paper Style-

Paper 1 (2 hrs) for Total marks of 49.Weightage:100%

Section A: Three short answer questions on the core approaches(Sociocultural, cognitive, Biological )to psychology from new textbook (27 marks ie 9 marks each question).All mandatory to answer.

Section B: Answer one essay from the choice of 3 on the Sociocultural, cognitive, Biological approaches to behaviour.

HL Level Information:

Paper Style-

Paper 1 (2 hrs) for Total marks of 49.Weightage:70%

Section A: Three short answer questions on the core approaches(Sociocultural, cognitive, Biological )to psychology from new textbook (27 marks ie 9 marks each question).All mandatory to answer.

Section B: Answer one essay from the choice of 3 on the Sociocultural, cognitive, Biological approaches to behaviour.

Paper 3(1 hr) for total marks of 24.Weightage: 30%
