Find below the details about the curriculum of Grade 12 Mathematics HL for the First Term Assessment due in October 2018.

Curriculum content that will be assessed:

Entire Unit 1: Algebra

Entire Unit 3: Circular Functions and Trigonometry.

Entire unit 6: Calculus.

For detail information about the concepts incorporated within these units you are expected to rigorously scan the subject guide.

Find below the paper pattern details along with indicated marks:

Paper 1: (Non GDC Based Paper)

Total Marks: 100

Duration: 2 hours.

Section A contains short response-based questions, you are expected to express your answers within the space provided in the paper itself.

Section B (50 Marks)

Section B contains extended response-based questions. Answers needs to be written in a separate sheet provided by the Invigilator.

Total Marks: 100

Duration: 2 hours.

Dear Parents and Students,

Please find below the details of the syllabus of Mathematics SL for the 1st Term examination of 2018-2019.

Syllabus (according to Mathematics SL subject guide):
1) Algebra
2) Functions and Equations

There will be two papers for Mathematics SL. Please check the following details of each component :

Paper 1 (60 Marks – 50% weightage – 60 minutes)

Students are not permitted access to any calculator.
Questions will mainly involve analytic approaches to solutions, rather than requiring the use of a GDC.
The paper is not intended to require complicated calculations, with the potential for careless errors. However, questions will include some arithmetic manipulations when they are essential to the development of the question.

Section A Compulsory short-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Section B Compulsory extended-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Paper 2 (60 Marks – 50% weightage – 60 minutes)

Students must have access to a GDC at all times. However, not all questions will necessarily require the use of the GDC.

Section A Compulsory short-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Section B Compulsory extended-response questions based on the syllabus mentioned above.

Important Note:
Each student will be given a clean copy of the formula booklet during the examination.
Marks may be awarded for method, accuracy, answers and reasoning, including interpretation.
Where an answer is incorrect, some marks may be given for correct method, provided this is shown by written working. All students are therefore advised to show their working.
Students are requested to carry all necessary resources during exam. Sharing of resources will not be allowed.

For the term 1 exams the syllabus for the subject of Economics is given below:

Micro Economics ( Topics : chapter 1 : The foundation of economics , chapter 2 : competitive markets demand and supply , chapter 3 : Elasticities , Chapter 4 : Government intervention , chapter 5 : Market failure )

Paper Description

Paper 1 will be 50 marks   for HL & SL students duration will be 1 hour 30 minutes.

Paper 3 will be consisting of 25 marks (Microeconomics) for HL students only and duration will be 30 minutes.

Highlights for Cycle 9

Highlights for Cycle 9

Dear Parents,

This cycle was a roller coaster ride for the teachers and students alike. With students challenging their brains to attempt the brain wrecking summative assessment in Maths to researching various national and international conflicts of the past and debating for the first time in this year.

Students formed the groups and were given a pick of the topic from the list of national and international conflicts like World War II, Taj Attack 26/11, Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, Dandi March, Indira Gandhi Assassination and Attack on the World Trade Center 9/11. The students analysed the conflicts using the lines of inquiry as their anchor. They armoured themselves with presentation skills and various graphic organisers to make their presentation stand out and shine. And indeed they were shining by not just synthesising the research data in the best possible manner but collaborating as a group and demonstrating social skills. They adopted various group roles and resolved their conflicts. The end of this ride was when students explored various conflict management strategies and made personal connections. Their learning was evident in the formative assessment attempted by them related to the unit – conflict.

In this cycle, their trip did not just end at exploring and learning about conflict management strategies but also learning and developing a conflict managing skill known as Debate. The students were exposed to the nuance of debating skills through the vocabulary specific to debate and the various aspects of a debate like the number of rounds in a debate, various roles that participant play, using the skill of notetaking while listening to others and using the technique of claim evidence and reasoning. They researched the topic ‘ Advancement in technology – a boon’ and showcased their learned skill. They further honed their skills by accepting the feedback from the teachers and working upon the feedback to emerge as a committed learner. The cycle came to an end with them sharing their understanding of using the comprehension skill of annotating, note taking, determining the importance and summarizing through a quick formative assessment.

This cycle came to an end with the loss of words of praises for the students and saving some for the upcoming next cycle full of enthusiasm.
