Term 1 Syllabus of Grade 9 Language And Literature is as follows:

Unit 2 – Sea of stories Short stories:

  1. Examination Day by Henry Slesar
  2. All summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury
  3. Kabuliwala by Rabindranath Tagore


Criterion A -: Analyzing

i. identify and comment upon significant aspects of texts

ii. identify and comment upon the creator’s choices

iii. justify opinions and ideas, using examples, explanations and terminology

iv. identify similarities and differences in features within and between texts.

Criterion B -: Organizing

i. employ organizational structures that serve the context and intention

ii. organize opinions and ideas in a logical manner

iii. use referencing and formatting tools to create a presentation style suitable to the context and intention.

Criterion C-: Producing Text

i.produce texts that demonstrate thought and imagination while exploring new perspectives and ideas arising from personal engagement with the creative process

ii. make stylistic choices in terms of linguistic, literary and visual devices, demonstrating awareness of the impact on an audience

iii. select relevant details and examples to support ideas.

Criterion D-: Use of Language

i. use appropriate and varied vocabulary, sentence structures and forms of expression

ii. write and speak in an appropriate register and style

iii. use correct grammar, syntax and punctuation

iv. spell (alphabetic languages), write (character languages) and pronounce with accuracy

Unit 3: Is seeing always believing? In this unit students will:
Find out how documentaries can expand our awareness of the world around us.
Explore current viewing trends and the effectiveness of media to lead to change.




UNIT 1: Book club (Presentation and communication skills)


In this unit, students will read and present books. The skills developed and catered are presentation and communication skills. The Summative Assessment for the same will be taken in the month of October.

(This unit will not be assessed in Term 1)


Examination Detail:

The exam will be divided into 2 components:

(i) Component 1: On-Screen examination to assess Criteria A & D – 60 minutes

(ii) Component 2: Pen and Paper examination to assess Criteria B & C – 60 minutes

Fully charged Chromebook will be required along with your personal stationery and earphones. In case your Chromebook is given for repair, bring a receipt for the same.

  • All the resources shared on Curricle(subject resource sheet and google presentation), Google Classroom as well as worksheets provided (online or in hard copy) will be considered as part of the syllabus and will be sufficient to prepare for the examination.
  • Paper will include MCQ-type questions, short and long responses.
