Dear students and parents,

Please take note of the following details regarding the Chemistry syllabus and assessment details for the 2019 term 2 exam.

Syllabus for SL and HL-Stoichiometric relationship(unit 1), Atomic structure(unit 2 and 12-AHL), Periodicity (unit 3 and 13-AHL). Chemical Bonding and structure (unit 4 and 14- AHL), Energetics (5 and 15-AHL).

Option B (Biochemistry)- B.1 Introduction to Biochemistry, B.2 Proteins and Enzymes, B.5- Vitamins

Option C (Energy)- C1 – Energy sources, C2- Fossil Fuels, C3- Nuclear fusion and fission.

(Refer to 2016 subject guide for further reference)

Assessment details

For SL:

2 50 50% 1 hour 15 minutes
3 30 20% 1 Hour

 

For HL:

Assessment details

SL students

Paper 1 -MCQ(30 Marks), duration- 45 minutes, weightage -20%

Paper 2-subjective(50 Marks),  duration- 1 hour 15 minutes, weightage -60%

HL students

Paper 1-MCQ(40 Marks), duration- 1 hour, weightage- 25%

Paper 2-subjective (75 Marks), duration- 1 hour 45 minutes, weightage-50%

Paper 3- data based and option (35 marks) duration- 1 hour (common for both SL and HL students) weightage-20% for SL and 25% for HL.

Grade 9 Chemistry highlights revision for final exam”

Dear All

This week students of grade 9 across the sections extensively solved past papers for paper 2, 4 and 6 and revised chapters like sulfur and carbonates, acid-bases and bonding. During COSP slots revision was conducted through past paper solving, discussion of key terms and reflection on chapters where they struggle and making action plan accordingly.

Grade 9 Chemistry highlights carbonate and sulfur”

Dear All

This week students of grade 9 across the sections started the chapters sulfur and carbonate, C12 and C13 respectively.   They learnt the reactions of contact process, properties of sulfuric acid, preparation and uses of lime. Next cycle, the chapters will be completed and revision will commence across the sections.
