Grade 9 Chemistry highlights acids-bases and salts and carbonate”

Dear All

This week students of grade 9 across the sections solved worksheet on acid-bases and salts and C13 , carbonate chapter was introduced. They learnt the equations involved along with the uses and relevant formula of carbonate compounds. The learning was correlated with real-life situations and supplemented with videos.

“grade 12 chemistry revision of chemical bonding”

Dear all

This week SL and HL students revisited the concept of chemical bonding, especially the concept of polarity in a molecule, shape of covalent molecules using VSEPR theory and determination of electronegativity values were dealt with. The students solved worksheet on the same with the misconception and correct concept behind each being highlighted and discussed. Overall, they found the sessions productive and gained lots of confidence in a rather difficult chapter. They also solved worksheets on spectrometry.

Dear all

This week HL students completed their HL syllabus by completing the chapter, “stereochemistry in biomolecules”. They studied the D, L- system of naming amino acids and carbohydrates, the stereochemistry of vitamin A and visual cycle, TOK connections of use of hydrogenation and saturated fats in food industry were also discussed. The teaching was supplemented with videos and classroom discussions.

As the syllabus is completed for HL students also, from next week thorough revision of areas of concern, practicing past papers, and doubt solving sessions will be conducted.
