The Most Awaited Literary Event: Poem Recitation!!!

Dear parents,

 

We are organizing the first literary event of the year 2018-19- Poem Recitation. The objective of a literary event is to expand students’ experience and exposure to poetry. It embellishes and develops their linguistic skills. It aims at providing a platform to the students where they can unleash their creativity.

 

Please note the following points for the event:

 

The parameters for selection and judgement will be on the basis of the criteria given below:                               

  1. Voice modulation
  2. Expression
  3. Clarity of speech
  4. Pronunciation
  5. Fluency

 

The event will be held on Monday (Day 2), 1st October 2018.

 

Three best performances will be selected from each section and there won’t be any further rounds of selection.

 

NOTE: Parents need to select a grade level poem and prepare their child at home accordingly. Please send a hard copy of the poem with your child for the competition.

Celebration of the unit : ‘Health Fiesta’

Dear parents,

 

Our learners have worked really hard and gained an in-depth understanding of the Central Idea: Choices people make affect their health and well being. Under the Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are. They are zealous to showcase their learning through the  ‘Health Fiesta’ scheduled on 7th & 8th August 2018. We cordially invite you to be a part of this event and witness the zest of the fest. We would like you to be an active participant in your child’s learning.

 

We have scheduled the Fest  for two days:

Parents need to assemble in Grade 2 wing for a brief orientation about the Health Fiesta. After the orientation, respective HRTs will escort parents to class for the presentation.

 

Kindly adhere to the timings mentioned. Your presence will be a great boost for your child.

 

Note: Respective HRTs will communicate the assessment time slots through DD.

Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are

Central Idea: Choices people make affect their health and well being.

  • Revision of Inquiry cycle was done along with Formative assessment to check their understanding through a comprehension worksheet.
  • Discussion of the video given in the homework was done in the class using the flipped classroom strategy.  The teacher checked the understanding of students by asking what makes a balanced diet. Later on, transdisciplinary connections were made.

Life Classes: To boost their self-esteem, each student wrote a good comment for every child on a colored sheet given. Later on, they read the appreciation got from their friends and stuck the sheet on the soft board.

Language

  • Read aloud was done.
  • Dictation was conducted.

Math

  • Students learned to read and understand the concept of skip counting.
  • Students practiced real-life word problems related to the time.

Homework

Central Idea: Choices people make affect their health and well being.

 

  • Students watched different videos related to food. The videos were shown with an intention that they become aware of the balanced diet and nutritional importance of it.

  • Students read the article related to nutrients in the groups and noted key points from it. Later on, they presented their understanding in the class.

 

  • Read aloud of the book ‘What Happens To Your  Food ?’ written by Alastair Smith was done.

 

  • Students evaluated their  ‘The daily routine log’ by filling the self-evaluation sheet which will help them to be responsible for filling the next daily routine log.

 

Language

  • Read aloud was done.
  • Dictation was conducted.

Math

 

  • Formative assessment was conducted.
  • The teacher started the time concept with the ‘Math-Talk’. Later, the students revised the concepts of reading the time – o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past. The students watched certain videos and understood the concept of 5-minutes.

  • Students practiced math number concepts of arranging the numbers in ascending and descending order and backward counting in their Math notebook.

Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are

 

Central Idea: Choices people make affect their health and well being.

  • The TDT, Central Idea, and the Inquiry cycle were revised with the students. Later, they reflected on “A choice that I make for myself is…” “A choice that someone else makes for me is…”
  • Students watched different videos related to food. The videos were shown with an intention that they become aware of the balanced diet and nutritional importance of it.
  • Read aloud of the book ‘Fabulous Food’ by Joann Cleland and ‘Fabulous Fruits’ by John Burstein was done.
  • The teacher gave ‘The daily routine log’ to the students and she also explained how to fill their daily log. The purpose of giving this log is to help them to understand the importance of being balanced.

Language With Ease: Introduction of conjunction was done through activity.

Week 1- Day 1, 2 & 3 was done.

Dictation was conducted.

Math:

  • The teacher started the time concept with the ‘Math-Talk’. Later, the students revised the concepts of reading the time – o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past. They watched certain videos and also understood the concept of minutes. The discussion was also taken on the usage of am and pm with time.
  • The teacher also made them practice the taught Math number concepts such as number names, backward counting, expanded form, place value, etc in their Math notebooks.

UOI:

Parents, please help your child in filling the given daily routine log of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Reflection of the same will be taken on Monday in the class.

Few Important points regarding the meeting
  • Each slot will be of 35 minutes (30 minutes discussion and 5 minutes transition time)
  • Students will accompany and wait outside the class, while the PTI discussion is going on and join the meeting for goal setting. 
  • It is compulsory for both parents to attend this meeting.
  • Please ensure that you have discussed and mutually decided (along with your child) on 2 goals (1 behavior and 1 academic).
