Literature and Language -: Student completed the task of conducting an interview and presenting the responses in the written form ( biography/article).Students also attempted a formative assessment task based on reference to context questions from the novel – “Wonder by R.J. Palacio.”

 
Book Club -: Few sections attended the read aloud session by Tahera Ma’am during this slot. For other sections, students presented the book which they have completed in the Book Circles or read the selected books during this slot.
Students are encouraged to finish seven books from different buckets so as to achieve the year-end reading goal for the book-club.
 
Homework -: ( To be submitted on 07/03/17)
Answer the following questions in the notebook -:

This week students were busy preparing for their Annual Day Performance. After the performance as per the schedule, in literature period, the following activity was done -:

1.) Completion of the chapter “The Performance Stage” from the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

2.) Discussion of the purpose questions from the chapter read earlier.

Refer to the blog post on Internal Oral Assessment. Start preparation for  the speech/Monologue. Refer to the criteria for this Internal Assessment mentioned in the earlier blog post.

Dear Students,

Announcing the Internal Oral Assessment Task for the Academic Session – 2015-16.

Task -: You have to prepare a Speech or a Monologue.

Speech –: Learn Speech by a famous person, The time limit should not exceed beyond 3 minutes.

Monologue –: Learn a monologue by any one character from the Shakespearean Play. The time limit should not exceed beyond 3 minutes.

This Internal Assessment will take place between 23/02/16 – 25/02/16.

Dear Parents,

Sneak peek into the week gone by -:

Literature: Novel Wonder – R.J.Palacio

This week, we started with Homework Discussion by addressing the Purpose Questions from the chapters read -: What does August think about the school? What does other children think about August?  We also discussed the  phrases, literary devices, new vocabulary words from the chapters Driving, Paging Mr. Tushman and Nice Mrs. Garcia.

In the next Literature session, we read the following chapters :Jack Will. Julian, and Charlotte,The Grand Tour and The Performance Space  using various reading strategies.popcorn, The following  Purpose Questions  were addressed while discussing these chapters. The questions are -: 1. Since August is the narrator, what does it allow the reader to know about him? 2. What information do we get to know about other characters in this narration?

We also invited Dr Manish Jain (Pediatric Surgeon) to help students understand Treacher  Collins Syndrome and other such anomalies and deformities . This guest session enabled the students to get aware of various congenital deformities among children and be sensitive and empathetic towards them.

Book Club:

Students gave presentation using (poster presentation, time line of events and oral presentations, teacher ambassador and group discussion). It’s a gentle reminder to all the students to read the books and make timely presentations.

Dear Parents,

Literature -: Students made presentation on the group activity based on the themes identified for the reader  – “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by R.L.Stevenson”.  Students were given few questions and answers were discussed in the class.

Glimpses of this activity -:

 

 

Language -: We started with Unit – 4, Checkpoint Workbook. Students attempted few exercises based on how to convert noun words into adjectives by changing their endings and replacing word “then” in the given passage with appropriate adverb.

Book Club -: Students gave presentation using (book reviews, online tweet, poster presentation, time line of events and oral presentations). Students are encouraged to instil reading habit and make timely presentations so as to reach the set benchmark for Book Club.

Homework -: Students can use this weekend revising for their upcoming unit test scheduled on 18/01/16.

Sneak peek into the week gone by -:

Literature:

Students exhibited  their understanding of the reader “Macbeth” during group presentation. They enthusiastically presented their work by applying the literary analysis formula introduced to them in this reader.

Language:

Workbook Unit 8 was completed wherein  students attempted exercises on use of active and passive verbs; comma; relative clauses; negative prefixes; adverb endings and apostrophe of possession.

Book Club:
Students gave presentation using (book reviews, online tweet, poster presentation, time line of events and oral presentations). Students are encouraged to instil reading habit and make timely presentations so as to reach the set benchmark for Book Club.
Homework:
Prepare for Macbeth Act 4 and 5 as Unit Test will be conducted on 21st January, 2016.

Welcome to Term -2, 2015-16.

After the much-awaited Diwali Vacation, Students enthusiasm and curiosity to get the marks for term – 1 exam was evident. On 26th and 27th November, the marks were revealed to the students followed by the feedback on their performance. We did detail discussion on the areas of improvement.

Literature -: Completed Chapter 6 – 7 of the reader “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde – R.L.Stevenson. Students attempted few questions based on these chapters.

Language -: We initiated an activity to understand process writing. Students wrote a recipe on friendship following steps of process writing.

Book-Club -: Students were taken to the library for issuing the books. Parents are requested to encourage them to read and make timely presentations.

Welcome to Term -2, 2015-16.

Literature -: Completed the Act -3, Macbeth. We did literary analysis of the text read for each scene. Students appreciated the text read and participated in the class discussion citing evidences from the Act-3. Students are once again keen to perform this act and practice for the same started this week.

Book-Club -: Students were taken to the library for issuing the books. Parents are requested to encourage them to read and make timely presentations.

Homework -: Attempt these questions in the Language Notebook. Date for submission is 08/12/15.

Q.2. How does Lady Macbeth cover for Macbeth at the banquet? What excuses does she give for his wild talk?

Q.3. How does Macbeth convince the murderers to help him?

Q.4. What does Hecate want the witches to do? Why is she angry on witches?

Q.5.What does Banquo think about the witch’s prophecies?

Grade 7 and 8_All Sections _Inter School Elocution Gala 2015

White Lotus International School is hosting Inter School Elocution Gala 2015 on 5th December 2015. It’s an elocution competition and only 3 students will get a chance to participate.

Group B: – Grade VI to VIII

Topics:

  • Effective communication to excel
  • Advertising influences our food choices
  • What would you rather be wise or intelligent?

Interested students have to prepare on any one of the topics given above and speak for a maximum of 3 minutes. In case of more number of students willing to participate, in-school auditions will take place.

Interested students are requested to give their names to Madhav Sir through e-mail, keeping their  Language Subject teacher in loop latest by 8:00 am on 30th November 2015, Monday.

P.S. -: All interested students are requested to be present in the X-box by 8:55 am for the audition.
