“Behes” Debate Tournament

“Behes” Debate Tournament

Behes tournament is a celebration of ideas, with students exploring a wide variety of topics and critically examining them. Designed to be interactive and challenging, each tournament rewards the top teams with qualification to the Maha Behes, the national season finale held in the National Capital Region (NCR) every Christmas.

All the debate topics at the events are given impromptu and based on a suggested reading (and viewing) list that is updated every few months. Students explore selections spanning a variety of disciplines in their bid to challenge the best in the debating community.

The free-flowing debate format encourages the growth of research, collaborative and analytical apart from oratory skills. Behes has now made its way into eleven cities in the 2018 season with over four thousand lives impacted, some of them as young as nine years old.

A helpful guide to learn more about them is on the website

You may also watch this short video to learn more about what the debate tournaments are like.

The Behes Surat Round a national level team debate tournament is to be held at the Gajera Global School on 9th and 10th December 2018. The top teams from the event will qualify for the Maha Behes – the national finals held at the end of every calendar year.

The details of the tournament are as follows:

Dates – 9th and 10th December 2018
Venue – Gajera Global School, Pal T.P. 10, Suda Awas Road, near Shalini Enclave, Gujarat
Dress Code – Formals
Reporting time – 8:00 am
Last date for registration – 7th December 2018 (5:00 pm)

Topics – Based on the reading list available at behes.org. Just click on ‘Resources’!

You may enter as many teams (of three members each) as you wish in the Lions (Ages 14-18) categories. Please note that these two age groups would be competing separately from each other. The students’ ages as on 25th December 2018 is to be considered.

Their staff will be providing orientations at interested schools to educate the students about the program and get students interested. These will, of course, be free of cost. Organizing an orientation is a great way to spark an interest in debate and critical thinking at your school.

Senior School Sports Day 2018-19

Senior School Sports Day 2018-19

Dear Parents,

It’s time for the day filled with fervor and exhilaration, amidst thrills and cheers.

Sports day at FS has always been a hugely competitive but fun event, as the four Houses battle it out for the House trophy.

Considering the feedback received by students and parents, this year we have decided to change the format of sports day where the students will have fun activities and will compete across sections of their respective grades during the sports day.

While the students demonstrate their competitive games talent against the opponents from other teams, we also encourage the best athletic skill in each student. There will be an athletic event, where interested athletes can strive to achieve their goals. During the annual Athletic meet, students across Grade 5 to Grade 12  will get an opportunity to showcase their strength and ability in various athletics. The students who have qualified as finalists will compete for their place.

This change has been brought so that we can ensure maximum participation during the sports day. It is mandatory for all students to attend Sports Day.

The dates for the Sports Day are changed and the new schedule is as follows:

Grade 7 & 8:    12th December 2018 from 8:30 onward

Grade 9 to 12: 11th December 2018 from 8:30 onward

The dates for “Athletic Meet” will be shared soon.

The main agenda would be, to provide a platform for the parents where they can talk about the issues that they are facing with their children and seek guidance from the other parents.

So get ready to be a part of this parenting circle and be equipped with the family circus hacks to handle your children.

Hereby sharing feedback from the last workshop we had with Grade 4, 5 and 6 parents:

– It was quite a valuable session. Lots of gratitude for the same. Also, lots of applauds to the school team to proactively organizing such session. Genuinely obligated to all of you.

– I really enjoyed being a part of the workshop and the tips shared by the counselors will definitely help us in reflecting on our parenting skills and styles. Listening from other moms also gave me comfort that I’m not the only one pulling my hair apart 😉 Thank you for the workshop! The effort is appreciated.

– It was indeed a fruitful session. Got a chance to recap, re-look and rethink about how I am as a parent and also on my parenting style. Having a discussion with other parent made me feel that I am not the only one and got few tips from them regarding how they are handling similar issues.

– Parents were sharing their concerns and experiences about their child and how they deal with the situations and what doesn’t work…

Important Note: MYP Interdisciplinary Unit

Important Note: MYP Interdisciplinary Unit

Dear Parents,

In IB MYP, one of the key features is its emphasis on the interdisciplinary teaching and learning. This is the process by which students come to understand ways of knowing from two or more disciplines or subject group and integrate them to create new understanding.

In each year of the programme, MYP schools are responsible for engaging students in at least one collaboratively planned interdisciplinary unit that involves at least two subject groups. In Grade-10, students will appear for the onscreen examination of Interdisciplinary Unit which is an essential component and is marked externally.

To meet this requirement, Interdisciplinary unit study will be conducted in Grade 7, Grade 8 & Grade 9 during Term – 2 of this academic session from 26th November – 12th December 2018.

Kindly note that there will be a change in the regular time-table during this period of execution of the Interdisciplinary unit.  Students will attend AS, PS, Arts, PHE, and Language Acquisition slots as per the timetable of a respective section.  Besides this, Grade 9 students will also attend the Optional subject and Additional subject classes as per the timetable during this period. Rest of the slots on a given day will be dedicated to the teaching of the interdisciplinary unit.

Since it is a separate subject for which the students will be getting levels and a Grade that will be a part of their report in the final term, it is important that the students attend the school regularly during the aforementioned dates.
