Dear parents,

After completion of different forms of organisation, we have started with the next topic – Organisational Objectives. The meaning of Vision statement and Mission statement., difference between the two and meaning of strategic objectives, tactical objectives and operational objectives was covered in the class.

After detailed discussion students were divided into groups and each group was given one business idea and then they had to decide the form of organisation, mission and vision statements, strategic and tactical objectives for their business. Students will present this in next BM class.

This week we had one class on discussing – the problems faced by start-ups, what is business plan, the contents of business plan & importance of business plan.

In the remaining classes this week, we started a new topic – Different forms of Organisation. We have covered forms such as Sole trader, Partnership, Companies, Social enterprise  & Cooperative society.

Dear parents,

This is to inform that Grade 11 BM  and Bio students are going for a field trip on 10th March, 2016 (Day 5) to Breadliner. This field trip is an integration of business management and biology. The purpose of the field trip is to understand different production methods of operations department (BM) and in biology, it is linked with topic of “Respiration”. Students have learnt anaerobic respiration also called fermentation which talks about use of yeast in bread making. They have performed a similar experiment using yeast and sugar in laboratory. This field trip is an extension to this learning.

Students have to be in complete uniform i.e. full pants and carry their I-card. 

Students will leave from school at 10am and will be back to school by 12:30pm. They will have their home meal break in bus so they are required to carry their breakfast with them for the trip.

Unit 1: Business organisation & environment

Unit 2: Human resource management

Unit 3: Finance and accounts

Unit 4: Marketing

Paper 1 (1 hour and 15 minutes)

Based on a case study issued in advance, with additional unseen material included in section B.

Marks – 50 marks

Section A

Students answer three of four structured questions. (10 marks per question)

Section B

Students answer one compulsory structured question. (20 marks)

Paper 2 (1 hour and 45 minutes)

Marks – 60 marks

Section A

Students answer one of two structured questions based on stimulus material with a quantitative focus. (20 marks)

Section B

Students answer one of three structured questions based on stimulus material. (20 marks)

Section C

Students answer one of three extended response questions. This question is based primarily on two concepts that underpin the course. (20 marks).

HL

Paper 1 (2 hour and 15 minutes)

Based on a case study issued in advance, with additional unseen material included in sections B and C.

Marks – 70 marks

Section A

Students answer three of four structured questions. (10 marks per question)

Section B

Students answer one compulsory structured question. (20 marks)

Section C

Students answer one compulsory extended response question primarily based on HL extension topics. (20 marks)

The syllabus for term 1 is as follows:

The concept of ethics, which includes the following topics:

Introduction to business management, Types of organisation, Organisational objectives, Stakeholders, External Environment ,Leadership & Mangement and Role of marketing

The concept of change, which includes the following topics:

Functions and evolution of Human Resource management

Marks for HL – 60 Duration – 2 hrs

Marks for SL – 40 Duration – 1 hour

Case study will be shared with the students at least 15 days before the exam. It will be a subjective paper and students will be expected to write the answers in the answer booklet provided.
