Term 2 Mother Tongue Assembly

Term 2 Mother Tongue Assembly

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart. – Nelson Mandela

Dear parent,

We take immense pride in conserving and celebrating language of every ethnicity which is one of the most distinctive quality of our nation, being entirely multilingual. Hence, to take the pledge forward and educate today’s generation about the  importance of our native tongue, we schedule Mother Tongue sessions, in order to teach students not just about their mother tongue but also its significance in one’s identity.

This term we will be celebrating the mother tongue assembly with the staff and homeroom teachers. We request parents to help students with details of their respective mother tongue. Students will be sharing insights of their mother tongue with the classmates. They can:

  1. Recite a rhyme/sing a song in mother tongue/home language
  2. Share their migration history
  3. Present using different media like chart paper, google slide, etc to share details/findings of their mother tongue.
  4. Prepare general questions in the form of a quiz
  5. Prepare declamation in mother tongue/home language. (A declamation speech is the term used to describe the re-giving of an important or famous speech.)
  6. Compare and contrast aspects of your language with any other language (e.g. origin, alphabets, script, sounds, writing direction, shared words, etc.)
  7. Identify and write common sayings or phrases from your language that others might like to learn and have them provide translations in Hindi/Gujarati/English
  8. Explore proverbs from your language and provide meaning of it
  9. Share a graphic presentation of some famous personality (sharing the same mother tongue) who have contributed to the society

Date: 12th March 2019

Time: 8:55 am to 9:45 am

Important Note:

  1. Students can come in civil/coloured dress representing their culture.
  2. It would be great if they could bring a cultural dish to have during their Home Meal Break.
  3. Post the assembly slot, students are expected to change to their school uniform.

We want our students to listen to their mother tongue and cherish it, hence, your cooperation in helping the students in building a multi-cultural environment will be a great help to the Fountainhead community.

Homework for the day- 5th March 2019

Homework for the day- 5th March 2019

Dear students,

Take note of the following homework tasks for today:-

  1. Since you had an elaborate discussion in the classroom today about the issues that we can bring to people’s notice and express our views about it so as to influence/persuade them to join hands with us, now is the time to look deeper into these concerns. The topics that you filled in the google form today need to be observed closely and to be read about in-depth. Talk to your parent, observe your neighborhood, hit the search button on Google and do all that it takes to dig deeper into these topics. It’s time to demonstrate being a curious yet enthusiastic inquirer! Put down your findings in your exhibition journal.
  2. You have been informed by your teacher about the Language term-end assessment that is scheduled tomorrow. Take help of following resources in order to revisit the concepts:-

a) Figures of speech

Revise alliteration, simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, and hyperbole.

b) Cornell note-taking strategy

c) Writing process

d) Writing traits

e) How to write a biography

(The red-colored underlined words in this document will lead you to another page. Go ahead to revise those highlighted concepts too; might prove to be helpful!)

f) Sample biography

Wishing all of you good luck for tomorrow’s assessment!

“Bring For Home” – Weekend Homework for 01/03/19

“Bring For Home” – Weekend Homework for 01/03/19

Reduce – Reuse – Recycle

Cardboard“Hey Carty!! How are you?”

Carton box Hey Cardy!! What’s up?? I am so happy. I have observed that I am preferred and used by people again and again. I am glad that I am worth recycling.”

Cardboard“So am I, but the issue is that those who use me, find it difficult to mold me because of my stubborn nature. They say that I am not malleable.”

Carton box “Oh dear!! I agree to you, in fact, I noticed my users talking with each other about how dehydrated you are and need so many coats of paint or colors to shine. “

Cardboard “Exactly, not only this, though I am stiff, I often bend due to gravity, I am so heavy dear.”

Carton box – “But don’t you worry Cardy, I am there to replace you, People do not mind recycling nowadays, in fact, they find it easy to locate me in their stores, cupboards, kitchens and in the attics as well. I have a bigggggg family and we are spread across the globe. “

Cardboard“ Don’t forget, I too belong to your distant family, however, I am often neglected because people cannot slit me easily with a pair of scissors and instead, are forced to use jagged cutters. I remember how you have grown over the time as earlier you used to have a thin layer of polyethylene (PE) that protected the product inside it and made you only 75% renewable, but now you are getting stronger day by day.”

Carton box – “ Oh thank you for acknowledging my efforts Cardy, I am sure that as far as I am there, people will use me. I am eco-friendly, renewable and sustainable just like you, the only difference is that I am cost friendly and handy. I am reused again and again and again. In fact, I am going to visit Fountainhead soon with all my close family members as there is utter need of me.”

Cardboard  – “ Yeah, I know that, since these are 10 – 12-year-olds so I would avoid joining you there. I do not want them to struggle in holding and molding me. I am sure you will be enough to suffice their curious creativity.”

Cartoon box – “These responsible students are going to get one each from their houses in whatever sizes they find me, and are going to gather all of my family members in their classrooms. We will have a family reunion on the 4th of March.”

So enthusiastic learners,

As you would have comprehended the task for the weekend, get along empty – waste cartoon boxes from home. It can be of any size. Smallest being the shoe box, a big one being the LCD/Refrigerator box, we are okay with anything you can carry to school. Just keep in mind that you must flatten it and then get it. Let us bid adieu to stubborn Cardy and greet welcome to Carty (cartoon boxes) for our creative DIY’s.

Time for a task
